On January 26,2022,China’s General Administration of Sport and the Ministry of Education jointly organized the issuance of the "Opinions and Suggestions on Further Expanding and Strengthening the Construction and Management of High Level Sports Teams in Ordinary Colleges and Universities".The document clearly requires that the establishment of an event system for university sports teams should be continuously improved,and the planning and construction of traditional sports demonstration schools and high-level sports teams in universities should be strengthened.The construction of high-level sports teams in colleges and universities should be incorporated into the national competitive talent training system,and further improvement should be made in terms of connotation construction,competition organization,evaluation and assessment,and organizational management to promote the service of high-level sports teams in colleges and universities to the development of school sports and the cultivation of national competitive talents.Crust et al.believe that social environment variables can positively predict sports engagement,that is,social support plays an important role in the formation of athletes’ total sports engagement system.Based on previous research,we can conclude that there is a certain relationship between social support,psychological resilience,and sports engagement.However,this relationship is not yet clear and needs to be further refined.However,many theoretical systems mostly focus on personal factors in explaining the causes of athletes’ sports engagement,while few studies have been reported on social environmental factors,resulting in unclear mechanisms for the impact of some social environmental factors on college football players’ sports engagement.In the context of the strategy of "integration of sports and education" and "construction of university sports teams",based on previous research,we can speculate whether there is a variable that serves as a bridge between social support and sports input,and then clarify the formation mechanism of such sports input.This study investigated 512 college football players using the Sports Psychological Resilience Questionnaire,Social Support Questionnaire,Sports Engagement Questionnaire,and Structural Equation Model.Amos software was used to explore the relationship between these three variables.Therefore,this study introduced psychological resilience as a mediator variable to explore the impact of social support on sports engagement of college football players,and proposed the following three research hypotheses: H1: Social support can positively predict sports engagement of college football players;H2: Psychological fortitude can positively predict the sports input of college football players;H3: The intermediary variable of psychological resilience plays a mediating role between social support and sports engagement of college football players.Finally,through statistical correlation analysis,the following results are obtained:(1)Assuming that H1,social support,and sports engagement are significantly and positively correlated(r=0.169),we can conclude that social support and sports engagement are significantly and positively correlated,that is,the more emotional support,respect support,information support,and tangible support college football players receive,the more significant their sports engagement is;(2)Assuming that H2,namely,there is a significant positive correlation between psychological resilience and sports engagement(r=0.164),we can conclude that there is a significant positive correlation between psychological resilience and sports engagement of college football players,that is,psychological resilience has a positive predictive effect on sports engagement of college football players.The higher the level of psychological resilience of college football players,the higher their overall level of sports engagement.(3)Assuming that H3,i.e.psychological fortitude,plays a partial mediating role between social support and sports engagement,the total effect of social support on sports engagement is 0.053,the direct effect is 0.049,and the indirect effect is 0.004,all of which are significant,with the mediating effect accounting for7.5% of the total effect,we conclude that social support and psychological fortitude have a significant positive predictive effect on sports engagement of college football players;This indicates that college football players’ sports engagement is influenced by both social support and psychological resilience.Psychological resilience plays a partial mediating role between social support and sports engagement,and its path map is: H1 social support → sports engagement;H2 psychological resilience → sports engagement;H3 Social support → Psychological resilience → Sports engagement.Research inspiration: Compared to social support,psychological resilience is a more proximal factor that affects college football players’ sports engagement.Therefore,we can increase social support and enhance psychological resilience,which will help promote college football players’ sports engagement.
