| STEAM education activities are comprehensive education activities with multidisciplinary fields as the activity content and the goal of developing learners’ ability to solve real problems and interdisciplinary thinking. In recent years,China’s preschool education field has paid attention to and tried to introduce STEAM education activities.Through the design of localized STEAM education activities in kindergartens, children’s problem solving ability and interdisciplinary thinking have been promoted, helping children understand the core concepts of disciplines in the field and master key skills.Children’s scientific inquiry ability is one of the essential key skills in the process of children’s development. As a comprehensive ability, children’s scientific inquiry ability can effectively promote children’s active learning and cultivate children’s scientific inquiry thinking.Based on the above background, this research will form a reasonable children’s STEAM education activity on the basis of analyzing the theoretical research of the design of STEAM education activities, and put it into the middle class age to implement intervention, and test the impact of children’s STEAM education activity intervention on children’s scientific inquiry ability. This research is based on the past research and theoretical model on the design of STEAM education activities. It preliminarily designs children’s STEAM education activities with complete composition system, basis for each link design and logic. It improves the activities through discussion with the expert group, and finally forms a reasonable plan for children’s STEAM education activities.Subsequently, the study selected two middle class children(30 children in each class)from Shaoxing D Kindergarten by random sampling as the research object. After determining the consistency of the development level and development ability level of children in the two classes, they were divided into experimental class and control class. In the experimental class, children’s STEAM education activities designed by the research institute were carried out,and activity intervention was implemented. In the control class, children normally carried out one-day kindergarten activities. The pre-test was conducted before the intervention of children’s STEAM education activities, and the post test was conducted after the intervention. The pre-test and post test scores were analyzed through SPSS 23.0,and the quantitative analysis results were used to verify whether children’s STEAM education activities were conducive to the development of children’s overall scientific inquiry ability and each sub dimension ability in the same time period.Through one-to-one interviews with four teachers who observed the whole process of children’s STEAM education intervention, the original interview data were coded at three levels to carry out qualitative analysis, further verifying the rationality of children’s STEAM education activity design and the impact of children’s STEAM education activities on children’s scientific inquiry ability.Through the combination of quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis, the research draws the following conclusions:(1)The design of children’s STEAM education activities is reasonable, which is embodied in the complete structure, the basis for the design of each constituent system, and the standardized activity design process;(2)In the same period of time, the intervention of children’s STEAM education activities can promote the development of children’s overall scientific inquiry ability and each sub dimension ability(prediction ability, observation ability, classification ability, measurement ability, discussion ability). The research puts forward the following teaching suggestions for teachers to design and carry out children’s STEAM education activities:(1)Take children’s real life as an important clue to carry out STEAM education activities;(2)Attach importance to the combination and interaction of the five fields in STEAM education activities;(3)In the process of STEAM education activities, attention should be paid to children’s active exploration and core experience acquisition;(4)Strengthen preschool teachers’ understanding and application of STEAM education activities. |
