The update and iteration of mobile communication tools and the reduction of traffic charges provide important technical and carrier support for the development of social media, which has been deeply integrated into People’s Daily life.On the one hand,it makes People’s Daily communication more convenient,on the other hand,it also has a great impact on personal physical and mental health.Normal media use leads to a series of cognitive and behavioral responses.Social phenomena such as "refresh","phubbing","mobile phone dependence" and "mobile phone addiction" are common. The fear of missing friends’ messages or status updates creates a diffuse anxiety that leads users to check social media apps repeatedly to make sure they are always online.FOMO has gradually become a common psychological phenomenon, which attracts the attention of scholars. From the perspective of social capital theory, this paper takes the youth group aged 14 to 35 years old in We Chat users as the research object. On the basis of combing and summarizing the concepts related to FOMO and social capital, this paper discusses the relationship between FOMO of youth group and social capital in mobile social network.Based on the review of existing literature, this paper divides social capital into three dimensions: bridge social capital, bonding social capital and maintenance social capital. At the same time,FOMO is divided into two types: miss information anxiety and miss situation anxiety. In addition, neuroticism was introduced as the moderating variable and intensity of social media use as the mediating variable. This paper constructs a research model to explore the relationship between social capital, social media use and FOMO.The study found that,in general, the phenomenon of FOMO is prevalent among young users.Among them, differences in social capital will lead to different degrees of FOMO among young users. The more social capital they perceive, the stronger the sense of FOMO.Social capital can be divided into bridge social capital, bonding social capital and maintenance social capital.Among them, bridge social capital and maintenance social capital will have a significant positive impact on FOMO.But bonding social capital does not affect the relationship of FOMO.In the process of positive impact of social capital on FOMO,although individual neuroticism level is closely related to FOMO,neuroticism does not regulate the relationship between the two as a moderator. It is worth noting that the use of social media further enhanced users’ sense of FOMO.The higher the intensity of users’ use of social media, the greater their sense of FOMO.From the perspective of social capital theory, this paper studies the phenomenon of FOMO which is prevalent among young users. On the one hand,it can enable users to have a clearer understanding of their media use behavior, and on the other hand,it can provide reference for us to understand the phenomenon of "mobile phone dependence" which is prevalent now.
