| The development of contemporary art exhibition spaces needs to be closely linked to technological advances.Technological developments, public health events and fast-paced life have highlighted the importance of virtual online platforms for information dissemination, communication, and interaction, making ’remote work’ the new norm.A series of virtual exhibition spaces have been introduced to the public through AR and VR(Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality)technologies, video filming and website platforms, which have become a leading trend. The contemporary exhibition space is taken as the object of inquiry by studying the phenomenology and post-phenomenology theories of philosophers and sociologists such as Heidegger,Schulz,Merleau-Ponty and Michel de Certeau as the philosophical origin;aiming to enhance the sense of spatial experience.Narratology,Sensory design, and Interactive participation are integrated into the study to propose the theoretical basis for enhancement of the experiential nature of contemporary exhibition space under the general trend of combining virtual and reality.Through the analysis of several design elements such as story, character, psychology and behaviour,as well as the comprehensive application of various theories such as game narrative theory, synaesthesis, psychological guidance and behavioural science, the online interactive exhibitions held in recent years by famous exhibition spaces of different spatial styles such as Tate contemporary,V&A Museum and The Design Museum are analyzed to sort out the evolution of contemporary technology and traditional exhibition spaces. The characteristics and spatial attributes of contemporary high-tech exhibition spaces combined with digital technology are summarised.Ultimately, the design requirements for enhancing the experiential nature of the exhibition space are derived from the strengths and weaknesses.Guided by the principles of ’experiential,’ ’specificity,’ and ’diversity,’ the study derives a’narrative enhancement’ strategy for the spatial level to address the lack of sensory aspects and ways to increasing ’participation flexibility’ through electronic technology.A series of approaches follow this to enhance the experiential nature of contemporary exhibition spaces, using the changing identity of subject and object in phenomenology as a criterion, including the approaches of ’spatial atmosphere creation,’ ’spatial emotional guidance’ and ’digital media, games and other interactive technologies’ are proposed. Some specific methods such as’ narrative closure,’ ’simplification of senses and associations,’ and ’behaviour following psychological change’ are derived. The aim is to find a balance between digital and physical space in an era of change in exhibition space and explore new areas for the use of the spirit of place and its possibilities for development in another perspective. It is intended to provide a theoretical reference for enhancing the development of contemporary exhibition space design. |
