Research On Impacts Of Part-time Farming On Socialized Agricultural Machinery Services

With the development of part-time farming,the effect of the loss of agricultural labor force is becoming increasingly serious,and socialized agricultural machinery services need to be strengthened.However,the small-scale operation mode contracted by every household and the fragmentation problem of the combination of land fertility and thinness hinder the development of socialized agricultural machinery services.Based on the theory of rational smallholder and a micro survey data of 813 rice farmers in Jiangxi Province in 2017,this paper applied a binary Probit model to analyze the influences of part-time farming and land fragmentation on socialized agricultural machinery services,to explore its working mechanism,and discuss the endogeneity and causality between farmers’ part-time farming and the adoption of socialized agricultural machinery services by the instrumental variable method.Through heterogeneity,this paper analyzes whether there are differences in the impact of different part-time business types on the socialized service of agricultural machinery,and compares the adoption of labor-intensive and technology intensive agricultural machinery services in the production link.Results show that:The socialized service of agricultural machinery has become the choice of most farmers,82.41%of farmers used socialized agricultural machinery services in two major production stages:harvesting(84.01%)and land preparation(59.53%).After correcting endogeneity,the part-time farming of farmers has a significant positive impact on the adoption of socialized agricultural machinery services,compared with the pure farmers,the part-time farmers are more inclined to adopt the social service of agricultural machinery;whether the different production links adopt the agricultural machinery service is sensitive to the response of the part-time distance of the farmers,the labor-intensive link is more favored by the part-time farmers outside the province,and the part-time farmers in the province have higher technology intensive link Demand.Land fragmentation plays an important role in restraining the adoption of social service of agricultural machinery and land fragmentation reduces the positive impact of part-time farming on the adoption of socialized agricultural machinery services.,and hinder the farmer concurrently to use the agricultural machinery socialization service promotion function the display.At the same time,the price perception and satisfaction of socialized agricultural machinery services,household head age,education,health status,home to county distance and whether they have received special training have significant impacts on the adoption of socialized agricultural machinery services.Therefore,this paper provides the following four suggestions:(1)strengthening structural reform in the supply of socialized agricultural machinery services and pay attention to technology research and development and purchase subsidies for weak links,ensuring the balance between supply and demand of socialized agricultural machinery services;(2)ensuring the effective supply of important agricultural products and give full play to the important role of agricultural machinery services in complementing the outflow of part-time labor force;(3)taking the opportunity of establishing high quality farmland to reduce the degree of farmland fragmentation;and(4)accelerating the cultivation of new agribusiness entities to promote the organic connection between small farms and modern agriculture.
