In 2019,the ecological protection and high-quality development strategy of the Yellow River Basin was proposed to promote the high-quality development of the whole basin and improve people ’ s lives from the aspects of economy, ecology and culture. At present, there is a problem of unbalanced and uncoordinated development in the development process of the Yellow River Basin, and the large consumption gap between urban and rural residents is one of them.As the main driving force of China’s economic growth, consumption plays an important role in promoting economic growth. The large consumption gap between urban and rural residents is the main factor of regional development differences in the Yellow River Basin, and it is also an important aspect of achieving common prosperity and balanced development. The development of digital inclusive finance has brought the optimization of payment methods and provided convenience for promoting consumption. Can digital inclusive finance narrow the consumption gap between urban and rural residents in the Yellow River Basin? What is the influencing mechanism? Is there any difference in the coverage, depth of use and degree of digitization of digital inclusive finance development on the consumption gap between urban and rural residents? Does the development of digital inclusive finance in different watersheds have different effects on the consumption gap between urban and rural residents?Based on the existing research results in the academic circle, this paper selects the statistical data of 74 prefecture-level cities in the Yellow River Basin from 2011 to2019 from the perspective of digital inclusive finance, studies the influencing mechanism of digital inclusive finance on the consumption gap between urban and rural residents in the Yellow River Basin through theoretical analysis and empirical analysis, and tests the heterogeneity of the coverage, depth of use, degree of digitalization of digital inclusive finance and different regions in the upper, middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River Basin. The main conclusions of this paper are as follows.(1)The development of digital inclusive finance can not only directly narrow the consumption gap between urban and rural residents in the Yellow River Basin, but also narrow the urban-rural income gap and thus narrow the consumption gap through mediating effect. The proportions of direct effect and mediating effect are 67.27 % and 32.73 %,respectively.(2)The credit business, insurance business and payment business of digital inclusive finance can narrow the consumption gap between urban and rural residents in the Yellow River Basin;(3)The coverage breadth, depth of use and degree of digitalization of digital inclusive finance have a promoting effect on narrowing the consumption gap between urban and rural residents in the Yellow River Basin. The coverage breadth has the greatest impact, followed by the degree of digitalization, and the depth of use is the smallest.(4)In different regions of the Yellow River Basin, the effect of digital inclusive finance on narrowing the consumption gap between urban and rural residents in the lower reaches is less than that in the middle and upper reaches.According to the above conclusions, this paper puts forward some suggestions to strengthen supervision to promote the orderly development of digital inclusive finance, innovating products to enrich the digital inclusive financial business system and promote the development of digital inclusive finance. It helps to narrow the consumption gap between urban and rural residents in the Yellow River Basin and promote the balanced development of urban and rural areas.
