| The use of social media in recruitment and selection process of employees has gained more attention in recent times and has created a lot of discussions among administrators, stakeholders, policymakers and academics across the globe. To contribute to the existing literature on this issue, this study focused on the factors that influence the use of social media in recruitment and selection process of employees. The study examined perceived risk, perceived benefit, perceived cost and perceived opportunity as the factors that influence the use of social media in recruitment and selection process of employees.Based on the available literature, the research developed a hypothesis model on the factors that influence the use of social media in recruitment and selection process. The study employed a quantitative research technique to test the conceptual framework of the study.Data was solicited from 350 employees of 12 banking sectors within the Ga West Municipality.However,380 standard questionnaires were administered to get the required 350 responses.A purposive sampling technique was used to solicit data.In analyzing the data,a simple statistical tool, multiple regression analysis,SPSS version(23)and Sobel test were used to analyse the data collected. The result of the data analysis revealed that: perceived benefit and perceived opportunity have a significant and positive effect on the use of social media in recruitment and selection process.Again, perceived risk was shown to have a significant and negative influence on the use of social media in recruitment and selection process. Also, perceived cost negatively affects the use of social media in recruitment and selection process. Finally, the result of the mediation analysis shows that Job satisfaction partially mediates the relationship between the independent variables and the dependent variable. From the analysis,it was deduced that using social media to recruit quality employees to an organization and maintaining them in an organization requires adequate pay and adequate incentives,a healthy working environment, management recognition and appreciation and opportunities for career training and advancement. In making recommendations in light of the findings of the study to inform future research and policy formulation. It is recommended that organizations should continue to commit more resources to the improvement of their internet and other social networks to ensure their effectiveness in employing quality candidates.Again, there is the need for the human resource managers of the banking sector to build up structures and policies that will help to alleviate any kind of legal issues and discrimination that may emanate as a result of using social media in recruitment and selection process. Finally, there is the need for the human resource managers to make sure that, the information that is collected from applicants is handled with secrecy. |
