Study On The Impact Of Highway Infrastructure On Farmer’s Entrepreneurship

For a long time,speeding up the construction of highway infrastructure is an important measure to accelerate the rural revitalization and promote the continuous development of agricultural economy.China’s infrastructure continues to develop.The 13 th Five-Year Plan period is an important period in which China’s rural areas have changed significantly,with smooth roads,improved health and medical conditions,increased coverage of communication networks and rapid rural development.By the end of 2020,China’s rural road mileage exceeded 4.2 million kilometers.Therefore,the impact of road infrastructure on China’s rural economic development is particularly important.Although a large number of domestic and foreign literatures have studied the impact of road infrastructure on social economy,most of the research objects are city-centered,including its impact on regional economic growth,economic and social development level,transportation economy and income,etc.However,the research on rural problems,especially on peasant household entrepreneurship is a little insufficient.Therefore,it is very important to encourage farmers to start their own business,increase the income of agricultural population and promote the growth of agricultural economy.Moreover,highway infrastructure,as a bridge connecting urban and rural areas,not only spreads new ideas and new culture,but also changes farmers’ thinking,expands market demand and industrial structure,and provides a good environment for farmers’ entrepreneurial development.Therefore,this paper proposes the hypothesis that road infrastructure affects farmers’ entrepreneurship.In order to explain the relationship between road infrastructure and farmer entrepreneurship,the data of this study were obtained from the 2018 Household and individual questionnaires of The Chinese Family Tracking Survey(CFPS)and the 2016 China Traffic Statistical Yearbook.Firstly,the relevant researches on highway infrastructure,farmer’s entrepreneurship and the relationship between them are sorted out.Secondly,the highway infrastructure and the current situation of farmers’ entrepreneurship in all provinces and cities are analyzed statistically.Next,the paper studies the influence of road infrastructure on farmers’ entrepreneurial behavior and determines the influence path from the test of the mediating effect of road infrastructure on farmers’ entrepreneurial behavior through human capital.Finally,the robustness was tested by heterogeneity analysis.The objective of this paper is to put forward policy suggestions for promoting rural economic development and improving road infrastructure by studying the impact of road infrastructure on farmers’ entrepreneurship.The research methods in this paper include statistical analysis method and econometric method.Road infrastructure includes density of primary road,density of secondary road,density of tertiary road,density of quaternary road and proportion of total road.Logit model was used to evaluate the impact of road infrastructure on farmer’s entrepreneurship,and Logit model was used to evaluate the mediating effect of human capital between road infrastructure and farmer’s entrepreneurship.The results show that different levels of roads have different impacts on farmers’ entrepreneurship,and the density of first-level roads and fourth-level roads has a significant impact on farmers’ entrepreneurship.As the most widely used road types,these two kinds of roads enable farmers to break the limitation of urban-rural communication.Human capital,a mediating variable,has a significant positive impact on farmers’ entrepreneurship.Farmers with high quality and high education are more inclined to choose entrepreneurship.In the test of mediating effect,the influence of road infrastructure on human capital still exists after the addition of the mediating variable into the model,but the coefficient decreases.Human capital has a great influence on farmers’ entrepreneurship,indicating that road infrastructure can affect farmers’ entrepreneurship through human capital.According to the above research content and combined with the actual situation,the author puts forward some policy suggestions on improving highway infrastructure and promoting farmers’ entrepreneurship...
