| moderate regional economic differences can promote the flow of factors, which is conducive to regional economic development.Excessive regional economic differences will cause unreasonable agglomeration of factors, which will have a negative impact on regional economic development.Although the state has issued policies such as western development and the rise of central China to promote regional coordinated development, since 2008,the gradually expanding differences between the north and South economies in China’s central and western regions deserve attention. What is more noteworthy is that around 2015,there was a new inflection point in the change trend of the economic difference between the north and the south in the central and western regions. The economic growth gap between the northern region and the southern region further widened, and there was also differentiation in the mode of economic growth. Therefore, combined with the above two key time points, this paper focuses on the current situation and causes of North-South economic differences in the central and western regions from the perspective of economic growth mode(TFP contribution).Firstly, this paper analyzes the current situation of the economic differences between the north and the south of the central and western regions from the perspective of economic growth results(measured by key economic indicators such as GDP,GDP growth rate and per capita GDP),and then focuses on analyzing the economic differences between the north and the South of the central and western regions from the perspective of economic growth mode(measured by TFP contribution),and summarizes the characteristics. The iterative method of distance function based on data envelopment analysis is used to calculate TFP contribution. Then, through the theoretical analysis of the current situation characteristics, this paper puts forward two research hypotheses: first, the supply side structural reform has increased the economic growth rate gap between the north and south of the central and western regions;second, the supply side structural reform has increased the economic growth mode(TFP contribution)difference between the north and south of the central and western regions;Secondly, taking the panel data of 17 provinces and cities in the central and western regions from 2006 to 2018 as samples, the two research hypotheses are verified by reference model regression and benchmark model(did)regression. The conclusions are as follows: first, there are significant differences in economic growth rate and mode between the north and South within the central and western regions;second, the supply side structural reform has widened the gap in economic growth rate between the north and South within the central and western regions,Third, the supply side structural reform has improved the TFP contribution of the inner and northern regions of the central and western regions relative to the southern regions, that is,it has improved the economic growth mode of the northern regions.Fourth, the upgrading of industrial structure has enhanced the effect of the supply side structural reform in promoting the TFP contribution of the inner and northern regions of the central and western regions. In view of the above conclusions, this paper puts forward the following policy suggestions to narrow the development gap between the north and the south in the central and Western Regions: first, stick to the achievements of reform, avoid strong stimulus policies, and beware of the reversal of the extensive economic growth mode;Second, the northern region should make use of its own endowment to actively adjust the structure and mode of transformation;Third,we should strengthen North South cooperation and form a pattern of complementary advantages;Fourth, actively integrate into new energy,5g and other new economic fields;Fifth,we should closely combine our own reform with the "double cycle" pattern. |
