During the three decades of reform and opening up, the economic imbalance between regions has been a crucial problem to China. Some developed provinces before the opening-up gradually lagged behind after the opening-up, while other less developed provinces before the opening-up has gradually become a large province in economy after the opening-up. Admitted, the national policy is definitely a key factor to such large differencese, but the different factor productivity in different provinces is also a significant reason in regional disparities. In this thesis, we evaluate the effect of 30-year economic growth of Liaoning, Shandong and Guangdong provinces from the perspective of the factors'contribution to the growth, analyse the role of labor, capital, technology and calculate TFP (total factor productivity). We compare the different role of (generalized) technological progress (TFP) in the provincial economic growth, trying to explain the regional differences from the perspective of the factor productivity and to analyze the reasons of the gap.The thesis is divided into the following five components:The first chapter is a preface to introduce the research background, purpose, significance and review the current research on economic growth home and abroad The second chapter introduces the theories of economic growth. Firstly, we review the development stage of growth theory, focusing on the influencing factors of economic growth of the neo-classical theory under the transition conditions and discuss the influencing factors on inputs and total factor productivity respectively in detail. At last, we generalize the main influencing factors on total factor productivity, which are capital deepening, economic operational mechanism, structural changes, demand fluctuations and institutional change. The third chapter introduces the model and data processing method and gets the 30-year empirical studies'results. The amount of input factors and the total factor productivity are measured respectively, whose contributions to economic growth are analyzed quantitatively. The fourth Chapter analyzes the different amounts of the inputs in the three provinces and the different efficiencies in use of the factors, trying to find out the deep-seated reasons about it.Chapter five is the conclusion part, which summarizes the main reasons for differences in economic growth of Liaoning, Shandong and Guangdong provinces and provides future catch-up suggestions for Liaoning province.
