After more than 40 years of development,China’s motorway projects have reached a stage of comprehensive high-quality development.Among them, the mileage of motorways has steadily ranked first in the world, greatly promoting the accessibility between cities in China, facilitating the free flow of production factors, strengthening the economic and trade ties between cities, and laying the transport foundation for realising the coordinated and integrated development of motorways and local economies in all regions of the country.Under the background of vigorously developing transportation and promoting the social and economic integration development of each city in China, based on the new economic geography theory, regional economics radiation theory, and growth pole theory, this paper uses the municipal panel data of 320 cities in China from 2010 to 2019 to construct a spatial measurement model to test the coupling relationship between highway development and regional economic growth.Firstly, the current situation of highway density,GDP per capita and year-end resident population at the national level and municipal level(320 prefecture-level cities)are sorted out to obtain the trend of highway and regional economic development in China in the past ten years, and the relationship between the two is qualitatively analysed;Secondly, according to the gravity model,we get the strength of the economic connection between cities in our country, and analyze the spatial polarization characteristics of the economic development of each prefecture-level city, that is,the spatial clustering map and the spatial distribution map of cold hot spots, and visualize the unequal status of the economic development in each region. On this basis,we divide our country into eight parts according to the national conditions,in order to prepare for the follow-up research;thirdly, test the spatial correlation of the data according to the Lagrange multiplier test and Moran index, and then discern the most sui Tab.spatial econometric model for this paper by LR test and WLRD test, and empirically analyze the spatial effect of highway development and regional economic development and the spatial spillover(indirect)effect of expressway construction in each economic zone on regional economic development is studied respectively. The test results show that all variables have significant spatial correlation, and the spatial Durbin model is the most applicable among the spatial econometric models.According to the empirical results, the level of highway development in China at this stage can significantly promote the positive economic development of the region, while the degree of promotion for the economy of the surrounding areas is lower, and the degree of economic aggregation in developed cities is greater than the degree of diffusion, making the spillover effect of developed cities to the surrounding areas reduced. In terms of sub-regions,the expressway construction in the northern coastal area, eastern coastal area and southwestern area promotes the economic development of the region, and the significant spillover effect positively indicates that it also has a positive pulling effect on the economy of the surrounding areas. The direct effect is positive, but the spillover effect is negative in the northeastern region, the southern coastal region, the middle reaches of the Yellow River and the middle reaches of the Yangtze River.Compared with other regions, the highway and economic development in the northwest region relative to other regions lagging behind, temporarily unable to meet their own development needs, the future is still the main areas of highway development vigorously. |
