"Developing various forms of moderate scale operation and cultivating new types of agricultural business entities are effective ways to increase farmers’ income and improve agricultural competitiveness,and are the direction and the only way to build modern agriculture".New types of agricultural business entities are emerging things in China’s agricultural transformation from tradition to modernization,and agricultural total factor productivity is an important driving force to realize China’s agricultural transformation,Therefore,it is of great significance to explore the relationship between the two for China’s agricultural transformation.The development trend and influencing factors of China’s agricultural total factor productivity have been widely concerned by the academic community,but few scholars have paid attention to the impact of the changes in agricultural business entities on agricultural total factor productivity;Some scholars have paid attention to the development and economic effects of new agricultural operators,but have not discussed their role in China’s agricultural transformation and whether they can improve agricultural total factor productivity.This paper,based on the panel data of prefecture-level cities from2015 to 2020,starts with the development of new agricultural business entities,and discusses how changes in agricultural business entities affect agricultural total factor productivity through theoretical analysis and empirical test,so as to enrich relevant research and provide a new theoretical perspective for improving agricultural total factor productivity.Firstly,this paper theoretically analyzes whether and how the development of new agricultural operating entities can improve agricultural total factor productivity,and analyzes that the development of new agricultural operating entities can effectively improve agricultural total factor productivity from the aspects of scale effect and technology utilization effect.It also analyzed the influence mechanism of the development of new agricultural operating subjects to promote the improvement of agricultural total factor productivity from the two aspects of improving the urban-rural dual economic structure and promoting the degree of agricultural mechanization.Secondly,this paper uses the fixed effect model to test the theoretical analysis.Benchmark regression results show that the development of new agricultural operating entities can significantly improve agricultural total factor productivity,and the results are still robust after a series of robustness tests.The results of mechanism test show that the development of new agricultural operating subjects improves the agricultural total factor productivity by improving the urban-rural dual economic structure and increasing the degree of agricultural mechanization.In the heterogeneity analysis,this paper analyzed the heterogeneity effect of the development of new agricultural business entities on agricultural total factor productivity from two aspects:regional condition difference and the difference of new agricultural business entities.The heterogeneity analysis of regional conditions showed that the development of new agricultural operating entities had a significant effect on agricultural total factor productivity in non-agricultural production areas and high economic development level.However,in areas with emphasis on agricultural production and areas with low economic development level,the development of new agricultural operating entities has no significant impact on agricultural total factor productivity.The heterogeneity analysis of the differences of new agricultural management subjects showed that family farms and specialized agricultural cooperatives had a more obvious effect on the improvement of agricultural total factor productivity,while specialized large households and agricultural product processing enterprises had a less obvious effect on the improvement of agricultural total factor productivity.Among the new agricultural operation subjects divided by scale,the promotion effect on agricultural total factor productivity was medium,large and small in the order from strong to weak.Finally,combined with the theoretical analysis and empirical results,this paper summarizes the research conclusions,and puts forward the rationalization policy enlightenment.
