In the report of the 20 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China,it was pointed out that we should not only stick to the focus of economic development on the real economy,but also speed up the construction of new industrialization.We also need to promote the development of the digital economy,deepen the integration of the digital economy and the real economy,and build internationally competitive digital industrial clusters.Digital economy is the future direction of global development,while the real economy is the foundation of China’s continuous economic development and winning the initiative in the international economy.As the main body of real economy and the "ballast stone" of big country economy,the manufacturing industry plays an absolutist supporting role in our national economy.Thus,it is of considerable practical value to examine the coupling coordination relationship between the manufacturing industry and the digital economy,as well as its influencing elements,using the typical Yangtze River Economic Belt as the object.In 11 provinces and cities along the Yangtze River Economic Belt between 2011 and 2020,this article primarily examines the degree of coupling coordination and influencing factors of the digital economy and manufacturing industry.This thesis first defines the terms "digital economy","manufacturing industry" and "coupled coordination" before summarizing the research literature from both domestic and international sources on these topics,as well as their interactions and the variables affecting the degree of coupled coordination.It then examines the pertinent theoretical underpinnings and interaction mechanisms of coupled coordination between the manufacturing industry and the digital economy and presents four hypotheses of influencing factors.Secondly,18 indicators are selected from four aspects of infrastructure,industrial development,integrated application and innovative development to establish the digital economy evaluation index system,and 11 indicators are selected from four aspects of industrial scale,industrial structure,economic benefit and innovation ability to establish the manufacturing industry evaluation index system,and the level of complete growth of the manufacturing and digital economies is determined using the entropy technique.Besides that,using the coupling coordination degree model,the coupling degree and coordination degree of the manufacturing industry and the digital economy are calculated depending on the level of complete development.Whereafter,according to the hypothesis proposed above,appropriate quantitative indicators are selected and panel data is used to empirically measure the influence direction and degree of each factor.Finally,the study concludes by summarizing the findings of the research and offering four recommendations for the coordinated and coupled growth of the manufacturing sector and the digital economy in the Yangtze River Economic Belt.Main research conclusions of this thesis:(1)From 2011 to 2020,the Yangtze River Economic Belt’s general manufacturing and digital economy development levels are rising,yet there is a significant regional disparity.The degree to which Shanghai,Jiangsu,and Zhejiang,three coastal cities,have developed,whether in the long-developed manufacturing industry or the new digital economy,has been in the leading position for several years,while the manufacturing level in the upstream and middle reaches is relatively backward.The development of digital economy is obviously insufficient.(2)From a temporal viewpoint,the degree of coupling coordination and coordinated development level of the manufacturing industry and the digital economy in the Yangtze River Economic Belt are continuously developing,and the mutual promotion and mutual influence between the two are becoming more and more obvious.From a spatial point of view,the coupled coordinated development of digital economy and manufacturing industry in the Yangtze River Economic Belt has obvious spatial agglomeration.The downstream region can reach the intermediate level of coordination,while the middle region is only barely coordinated,and the upstream region is on the verge of imbalance.(3)Through the bidirectional fixed effect model,it is found that the four selected core explanatory variables have greatly promoted the coupled and coordinated development of the digital economy and manufacturing industry in the Yangtze River Economic Belt,among which the economic development level is the most important external factor affecting the coupling and coordination degree of the two,and the promoting effects of government support,industrial structure and innovation level are decreasing successively.
