Abstract/Summary:
As a complementary method to the sales market, barter exchange plays an important role in transferring surplus inventory and increasing revenue. At the same time, factors such as the uncertainty of barter quantities and barter commissions can pose risks to companies.Faced with fierce market competition and a complex barter environment, firms are usually averse to potential risks.Based on this, this paper introduces the risk-averse attitude of retailers into the inventory system with barter exchange and emergency replenishment, establishes the inventory decision model of risk-averse retailers based on the maximum retailer efficiency, and gives the optimal ordering strategy of retailers through model analysis. The effects of the retailer’s risk aversion, barter activity and emergency replenishment on the ordering decision are further discussed.Specifically, the main research of this paper is as follows.First,we consider the ordering problem for a risk-averse retailer with barter exchange. For this problem, the retailer first orders products from the supplier and then sells them in the marketplace. At the end of the selling season, the retailer trades the unsold products through a barter platform and disposes of the remaining inventory. In this regard,a replenishment optimization model for risk-averse retailers is developed based on conditional value-at-risk criterion. The optimal solution of the model is obtained through model analysis, thus providing the optimal ordering strategy for the retailer. Finally, the validity of the model is verified by numerical experiments. Then,we study the ordering decision problem of a risk-averse retailer with barter exchange in a scenario where emergency replenishment is allowed.Depending on the change in the emergency replenishment price, the retailer will decide whether to make an emergency replenishment and how much to replenish. In this regard,we construct a model for the ordering decision of a risk-averse retailer with barter exchange and emergency replenishment in each case, and give the optimal ordering decision of the retailer under different emergency replenishment prices.Further,we analyze the effects of the retailer’s risk-averse attitude, bartering activity and emergency replenishment on the retailer’s ordering decision. Finally, the validation of the theoretical analysis is achieved with the help of numerical examples. This paper integrates the behavior of bartering and emergency replenishment of retailers to construct an inventory optimization model for risk-averse retailers, and proposes theoretical basis and effective suggestions for the behavioral decisions of risk-averse retailers.
