With the development of the digital economy, digital transformation has become an important development strategy for enterprises. The international trade has also undergone profound changes. Therefore,it is important to study the relationship between digital transformation and the impact of enterprise trade structure,as well as how to effectively guide enterprises to carry out innovation activities to promote China industrial upgrading.Based on the theoretical knowledge of resource, technology gap and import substitution, this paper uses data related to listed companies during the ten-year period from 2007 to 2016 to study the effect of digital transformation on the technical complexity of enterprises’ imported products and the mechanism of action.Firstly, the least squares method is used to assess the effect of digital transformation on the complexity of enterprises’import technology;secondly, the independent innovation capability of enterprises is introduced as a mediating variable, and the mechanism of the effect of digital transformation of enterprises on the complexity of import technology is explored by stepwise regression;thirdly, the government fiscal incentive is used as a moderating variable, and the multiplication of the effect of digital transformation of enterprises and fiscal incentive is added to the regression model to test the moderating effect of government fiscal; Finally, this paper adopts various methods such as robustness test and endogeneity analysis such as robust test and instrumental variable method to verify the reliability of the conclusions of this paper. The results show that, firstly, digital transformation can help enterprises get rid of their import technology dependence and help reduce their import technology complexity, and the effect has long-term stable features.Second, there is a mediating function of the level of independent innovation in this effect, which means that digital transformation of enterprises can reduce the complexity of imported technology by promoting the ability of independent innovation of enterprises.Thirdly, there are differences in the degree of influence of digital transformation of heterogeneous enterprises, and the effect of digital transformation on the complexity of imported technology production is more obvious for enterprises with the following characteristics:ownership of non-state enterprises,CEO with technical background, and higher dependence on imports.Fourthly, government financial incentives can effectively regulate the effect of digital transformation on the complexity of imported technology, and the enterprises that receive higher intensity of government financial incentives, the more obvious the effect is.The research in this paper proves the important role of enterprise digital transformation in import trade, complements the driving factors of enterprise independent innovation, and provides an important basis and substantial suggestions for China to carry out industrial upgrading.Specifically, for the government,it should start from digital policy implementation, regulatory mechanism establishment, personalized measures implementation and other aspects to increase the positive guidance of digitalization for enterprises. For enterprises, they need to increase the investment in management mechanism and talent training in order to stand out in the fierce market competition. In conclusion, this study takes this opportunity to hope that both the government and enterprises can pay attention to the strategic effects of technological innovation, industrial structure upgrading, and nationalization transformation brought about by the process of digital transformation, and contribute wisdom to the construction of digital China.
