| Under the background of China’s rapid urbanization, there are a certain number of large and medium-sized cities. In the process of gradual reduction of population scale, they still continue the trend of increasing construction land area in the past, resulting in the contraction paradox of population loss and urban expansion. In today’s increasingly urbanization, compared with urban growth, urban contraction has become an inevitable objective phenomenon in the process of urbanization in China, and has attracted extensive attention. This paper mainly studies three aspects:first, the characteristics and distribution of economic efficiency of Shrinking Cities in China from 2000 to 2019;Second,from the perspective of spatial expansion, analyze the factors affecting the economic efficiency of shrinking cities;Third, based on the analysis of these influencing factors, this paper puts forward measures to improve the economic efficiency of shrinking cities. This paper selects the panel data of 115 Shrinking Cities in China from 2000 to2019,measures it according to the input-output indicators, uses the data envelopment analysis method, and uses the panel regression model to carry out an empirical study on the influencing factors of urban economic efficiency. The following conclusions are obtained:(1)there is still a lot of room for the overall level of economic efficiency of Shrinking Cities in China. The urban economic efficiency of the East, middle and west regions is decreasing in turn, and the efficiency difference of these cities is obvious.China’s shrinking cities have a high level of scale efficiency. In comparison, the level of urban pure technical efficiency is low,and the gap between regions is large.(2)From the regression results of fixed effect model, spatial expansion, transportation infrastructure, income level, industrial structure and economic development have a positive impact on Shrinking Cities, and only the level of investment in real estate has a negative impact on the improvement of efficiency of shrinking cities.(3)This paper discusses the economic efficiency of Shrinking Cities from the perspective of spatial expansion. It is found that the economic efficiency of shrinking cities is still improved under the condition of population reduction and spatial expansion.Because the western region is vast and sparsely populated, the agglomeration effect and urban scale effect of urban spatial expansion are not prominent, while the spatial expansion of the eastern and central regions can well promote the improvement of urban economic efficiency.According to the above conclusions, this paper puts forward countermeasures and suggestions to improve the economic efficiency of Shrinking Cities in China. |
