| In the past,our country had abundant labor advantages and abundant natural resources,which attracted a large number of multinational enterprises from developed countries to invest and set up factories,which not only promoted our country’s economic development,but also improved our country’s manufacturing capacity.However,with the disappearance of our country’s demographic dividend,our country’s low-cost advantage in product production is no longer prominent,and in the international trade market,product exports can no longer win by quantity.Therefore,our country’s industrial transformation and upgrading is imminent,and it is urgent to improve the technical complexity of export products in order to cultivate new product competitive advantages.This paper aims to focus on whether there is an impact relationship between FDI and the technical complexity of our country’s manufacturing exports.Using the interprovincial panel data of 30 provinces(municipalities and autonomous regions;except Tibet)and 16 types of export products from 2005 to 2020,this paper studies the impact of FDI on the technical complexity of manufacturing exports from both theoretical and empirical aspects,and introduces innovation.Input is used as an intermediary variable to study the influence mechanism of "FDI→innovation investment→export technical complexity";in the research process,our country is divided into eastern,central and western regions by region,and 16 types of products are divided into labor-intensive products by industry type.three types: capital-intensive,and technology-intensive.After measuring the technical complexity of exports in 30 provinces and cities,the relationship between FDI and export technical complexity is tested,and the mediation effect of innovation investment is tested.Finally,regional heterogeneity and industry heterogeneity are tested.analyze.The results of this paper show that:(1)FDI can improve the technical complexity of our country’s manufacturing exports through direct and indirect routes.(2)From2005 to 2020,the overall technological complexity of our country’s exports has shown an increasing trend over time.(3)The influence path of “FDI→innovation investment→export technical complexity” exists.Innovation input can act as an intermediary variable between FDI and export technological sophistication.(4)The effect of FDI on the technical complexity of exports and the mediating effect of innovation investment in the eastern and central regions of our country are significant,but not significant in the western region.(5)Compared with labor-intensive and capital-intensive industries,the promotion effect of FDI on export technical complexity and the mediating effect of innovation input in technology-intensive industries are more stable.Based on the above research conclusions,this paper puts forward the following suggestions: First,our country should improve the introduction qualification bureau and implement foreign investment policies according to local conditions.Second,domestic enterprises can use the mechanism of FDI to affect the technical complexity of exports,reasonably introduce foreign capital,cultivate the ability to produce high value-added products,and improve the technical complexity of their own product exports,especially to promote the development of high-tech industries.Third,domestic enterprises can increase investment in innovation and increase the technical complexity of exports from both foreign capital and their own means. |
