Abstract/Summary:
At present,China has entered a stage of high-quality development.Relevant government departments have repeatedly stressed the need to build a green financial system at economic conferences to promote the realization of the " double carbon " goal.Green finance is an inevitable choice for high-quality economic development. As an important part of green finance, green credit can guide funds to flow to green environmental protection industries, which is conducive to the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries and the realization of sustainable development. As the main body of green credit business, whether commercial banks can actively promote green credit products depends on the impact on their business performance.Based on the existing literature and data, this paper studies the relationship between the two in both theoretical and empirical aspects,in order to promote the development of green credit business in China.Firstly,on the basis of combing and summarizing the relevant literature of green credit at home and abroad, this paper comprehensively introduces the definition of green credit and business performance and related theories, and then summarizes the development process and development status of green credit in China. It is found that the proportion of green credit in China is on the rise, and the types of green credit products are diversified. At the same time,it is also analyzed that there are problems in the development of green credit in China, such as information asymmetry between banks and enterprises, lack of relevant talents, concentration of green credit investment and long return cycle. Then this paper selects 15 A-share listed commercial banks in China as research samples, collects and collates the data of commercial banks from2012 to 2021,and analyzes the impact of green credit on the operating performance of commercial banks through empirical tests. In the process of quantitative analysis, this paper uses factor analysis to measure the comprehensive operating performance indicators of commercial banks, and builds a panel model for regression analysis based on this. The regression results show that green credit has a negative effect on the performance of commercial banks. After that, the sample banks are divided into non-state-owned commercial banks and large state-owned commercial banks by nature for heterogeneity test. The results show that the impact of green credit on large state-owned commercial banks is low, while it will have a significant negative impact on non-state-owned commercial banks. The main reason is that the assets of non-state-owned commercial banks are small and the crowding-out effect of green credit on other businesses is large.Based on the results of empirical research, this paper puts forward suggestions for the development of green credit business of commercial banks in China from the three aspects of government, society and banks themselves, mainly including : improving laws and regulations related to green credit, establishing a unified green credit standard, establishing a good green credit market environment, creating a good social atmosphere of green culture, strengthening social supervision, innovating green credit products, and cultivating professional talents.
