Given the rise of intricate social and environmental challenges such as climate change, crisis of trust, and unbalanced development, sustainable development has been propelled to the forefront of national strategy priorities. As the backbone of economy, how corporations address these issues in commercial ways has increasingly become a focus of business management. Thus, the concept of corporate social innovation has been put forward and has gained traction as an independent topic beyond the scope of corporate social responsibility in many countries. In China, some corporations have proactively explored social innovation practice, but a large number of corporations are still reluctant to step out of the "comfort zone" of charitable donations. To promote the shift from philanthropy and volunteering to corporate social innovation, scholars have extensively discussed the influence of corporate social innovation on financial performance. However, only a few scholars have empirically examined the relationship between corporate social innovation and social value creation, leading to inconsistent conclusions. In addition, while the literature has theoretically discussed the potential impact of stakeholders on corporate value creation, little attention has been given to the possible influence of corporate stakeholders in the process of social innovation and how companies can respond to and manage multiple stakeholders. This thesis uses social value rating data from 2016 to 2021 by Social Investor Alliance(Shenzhen)to examine the impact and mechanism of corporate social innovation on corporate social value from the perspective of stakeholders.Specifically, this study addresses two research questions:(1)the relationship between corporate social innovation and corporate social value;and(2)the moderating role of civil society development and the establishment of a CSR Committee in the mechanism of corporate social innovation’s influence on corporate social value, based on the stakeholder’s attributes of variability, social constructiveness and consciousness. The findings reveal that corporate social innovation significantly enhances corporate social value, and this positive correlation is further strengthened in the context of a highly developed civil society and the establishment of a CSR Committee.By investigating the relationship between corporate social innovation and corporate social value, this thesis provides new evidence to the discourse on the outcomes of corporate social innovation and broadens the scope of stakeholder management in corporate social innovation research.Besides, the use of newly disclosed social value rating data for empirical research represents a proactive attempt to address the challenge of measuring corporate social value.
