Under the background of knowledge economy and open innovation,the influence of knowledge base on firm technological innovation performance is increasing day by day.Technological knowledge is the key to the short-term success of firms,and scientific knowledge is the cornerstone of long-term leading firms.Scientific knowledge is the understanding of basic principles and objective phenomena,which can help firms grasp the pulse of technological renewal quickly through direction guidance and method guidance.More and more firms deepen and broaden their scientific knowledge base by increasing investment in basic research,and promote internal and external knowledge flow by strengthening industry-university-research collaboration,so as to improve technological innovation performance.However,in practice,firms have difficulties in choosing to focus on key areas to deepen their scientific knowledge base or to accumulate diversified scientific knowledge in different fields,and lack a clear understanding of the relationship between the breadth and depth of scientific knowledge base and the performance of incremental and radical technological innovation.Based on the Knowledge-based view,ambidextrous theory and absorptive capacity theory,this paper takes China biological medicine industry as the research object,explore the direct impact of the breadth and depth of scientific knowledge base on the incremental and radical technological innovation performance of firms,and the moderating effect of innovation openness on the above relationship,and put forward the corresponding research hypothesis and conceptual model.Then,empirical analysis is carried out by using the data of relevant papers,patent data and firm characteristic data of the industry.Regression analysis and other methods were used to verify the relationship between innovation openness,scientific knowledge base and technological innovation performance,and conclusions are drawn.It is concluded that scientific knowledge breadth positively affects the incremental and radical technological innovation performance of firms,scientific knowledge depth has a significant positive effect on the incremental technological innovation performance,and no significant positive effect on the radical technological innovation performance.Industryuniversity-research collaboration weakens the positive relationship between scientific knowledge breadth and ambidextrous innovation performance,and strengthens the positive relationship between scientific knowledge depth and ambidextrous innovation performance.This study is helpful to enrich the theoretical research on the relationship between industry-university-research collaboration,scientific knowledge base and technological innovation performance,and is a useful supplement to the existing literature.Meanwhile,it has certain guiding significance for firms to optimize scientific knowledge management and improve the efficiency of industry-universityresearch collaboration.
