China's economic development has entered a new normal, economic growth is converting by the factor-driven to innovation-driven,innovation is still the core to remain competitive in the new round of technological revolution and the industrial revolution. Enterprise knowledge base is the starting point of innovative activities and R&D is an important way of technological innovation. Structure of knowledge base and R&D mode selection is bound to have a major impact on innovation performance. However, the studies combing enterprise knowledge base, R&D model and innovation performance are very few, being still in the exploratory. Thus, discussion on mechanism of enterprise knowledge base, R & D model and innovation performance has important theoretical and practical significance.Based on the above research purposes, taking data collected from 408 firms with technology center in Hubei Province for the study, using SPSS for statistical analysis, this article explored the relationship between the breadth and depth of the enterprise knowledge and innovation performance, and analyzed the moderating effect of internal R&D and cooperative R&D on the relationship. The results show that enterprise knowledge breadth has a positive effect on the innovation performance, the more fields involved, the better it conducts to technical innovation. While there is a significantly inverted U-shaped relationship between enterprise knowledge depth and innovation performance, and there exists an optimal level in knowledge depth in view of technological innovation.Furthermore we proved that internal R&D play a positive moderating effect on the relationship between knowledge breadth and innovation performance, on the contrary, the moderating effect of R&D cooperation on the relationship between knowledge depth and innovation performance is significantly negative; R&D cooperation has no significant effect on the relationship between knowledge breadth and innovation performance, but it plays a negative effect on the relationship between knowledge depth and innovation performance.
