Study On The Import Potential Of Dairy Products In China From The Perspective Of Sino-european Trade

Relying on its rich natural resources,mild climatic conditions,advanced production technology and mature animal husbandry development model,Europe has always been the world’s largest dairy export continent.In 2020,Europe controls 68.29% of the world’s dairy export share,leading to the formation and development of the world dairy trade network.For China,Europe is the largest source of dairy products imported from China.In 2020,41.07% of the total dairy products imported from China will come from Europe.Therefore,Europe is an important market to ensure the safety of dairy products supply in China.In the future,with the increasing demand of Chinese residents for dairy products,the scale of imported dairy products in China will continue to increase.So,as the largest source area of dairy products imports in China,is there room for further cooperation in the European market? How much cooperation space is there? How to further release the trade potential of China’s dairy products imported from Europe? This study empirically explores this issue from the perspective of trade efficiency and trade potential.From the perspective of international economic and trade relations,in recent years,the economic and trade relations between China and Europe are also in a complicated and changeable state.On the one hand,China is constantly promoting the sound development of China-EU relations,actively promoting the "17+1" cooperation mechanism,enhancing mutual understanding with Central and Eastern European countries,strengthening the willingness of economic and trade cooperation,and realizing the trade complementarity between the two sides;Promote the signing and entry into force of China-EU Comprehensive Agreement on Investment,ensure mutual investment protection,respect intellectual property rights,and work hard to deepen mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation between the two sides;It is also increasing the number of trains opened between China and Europe,and establishing a land,sea and air transportation mode for the exchange of goods and services between China and Europe.These measures will bring certain convenience to China’s import of dairy products from Europe;On the other hand,China-EU relations are also vulnerable to the negative impact of American hegemonism and trade protectionism,which hinders the friendly development of China-EU relations and has a potential negative impact on China’s dairy imports from Europe.Firstly,this study explains the reasons why China can try to tap the import potential of dairy products from Europe to cope with the continuous increase of China’s dairy products import scale in the future from four aspects: the global leading quality of European dairy products,the strong international competitiveness of European dairy products,the matching of international supply and demand between China and Europe,and the loose trade links between China and Europe.Secondly,it summarizes the current situation of China’s dairy products imported from Europe from 2005 to2021 and the potential risks of China’s dairy products imported from Europe from three angles:overall scale,category structure and geographical structure.Thirdly,the stochastic frontier gravity model is constructed by empirical analysis,and what factors will affect China’s import of dairy products from Europe is analyzed.On this basis,the trade efficiency,trade potential and future expansion space of various dairy products imported from European countries are calculated.Finally,some reasonable suggestions are put forward for China to further release the trade potential of dairy products imported from Europe.The research shows that the trade efficiency of dairy products imported from Europe in China is low,the trade potential is great,and there is also a lot of room for expansion,especially from the Netherlands,Germany,France,Denmark,Ireland,Spain,Belgium,Italy,Britain and Switzerland.The increase of China’s GDP will have a negative impact on China’s dairy import trade from Europe,and the increase of population will greatly promote China’s dairy import trade from Europe.The increase of GDP,trade freedom,investment freedom and liner shipping index of European countries is beneficial to China’s dairy import trade from Europe,while the increase of financial freedom,business freedom and dairy output is not conducive to China’s dairy import trade from European countries.The proposal of "the belt and road initiative" initiative is also beneficial to China’s dairy imports from Europe,but the geographical distance,the opening of China-Europe trains and the signing of free trade agreements have not had a significant impact on China’s dairy imports from Europe.
