Research On The Three-dimensional Margin Measure And Potential Of China’s Vegetable Import Trade

Vegetables play an important role in the consumption structure of our residents and agricultural trade.Since China’s entry into WTO,the import scale of vegetables has increased rapidly.Since 2018,our country has issued a series of policies,the initiative to expand the import of agricultural products.With the increase of vegetable import scale,the import risk also increases gradually.How to stabilize import channel and promote import diversification becomes a problem for relevant departments to consider.Based on the trade data of 25 kinds of vegetable products imported from the world from 2001 to 2020,this paper analyzes the development process and characteristics of our country’s vegetable import trade by statistical analysis method Thirdly,the paper analyzes the growth pattern of vegetable import market share by using the three-dimensional marginal decomposition,and then empirically analyzes the institutional factors that affect our country’s vegetable import by using the stochastic frontier trade gravity model Finally,the trade efficiency and trade potential between our country and 14 representative partner countries are calculated.The research results can provide basis for relevant departments to formulate policies to promote stable import channels and promote import diversification.The main conclusions of this study are as follows: the promotion of vegetable import market share is from strong to weak,which are quantity margin,price margin and breadth margin;The main factors that have significant positive impact on China’s vegetable import include our GDP,the population of importing partner countries,the geographical distance between the two countries,whether or not to join ASEAN10+3,the degree of trade openness,the quality of trade and transport-related infrastructure,the efficiency of customs clearance procedures,and the volume of air freight transport,whether the signing of the “ Belt and Road ” cooperation document can promote the growth of vegetable imports,but not significantly,there are significant negative correlation factors including the GDP of the importing partner country,the size of our population,the level of weighted tariffs,the Index of Economic Freedom,and the large differences in the efficiency of our vegetable import trade with other countries,the overall level is on the low side but gradually increasing;the trade potential is bigger and the development space is abundant.According to the research results,the policy recommendations are as follows: first,improve the structure of import countries,increase the number of new trading partners as appropriate,and diversify trade through the old trading countries.Second,improve the structure of import products,increase the import of high-quality vegetable products,and strengthen the import initiative Third,deepen regional economic cooperation,optimize the institutional environment between the two sides and import partner countries,improve trade efficiency and expand trade potential;fourth,strengthen infrastructure assistance,supporting freight infrastructure development in Myanmar,Thailand,Indonesia and Vietnam.
