The growing popularity of tea culture and the emergence of new milk tea and tea drinks have led to a surge in demand for tea.The need to maintain a consistent increase in tea production is imperative, not only to cater to consumer demands but also to enhance the income of tea farmers and ensure their wellbeing. However, natural disasters pose a significant threat and uncertainty to tea production, resulting in substantial losses each year. Therefore,it is essential to investigate effective strategies to minimize the loss of tea tree disasters and sustain tea production.Farmers,as direct bearers of natural disaster losses and direct participants in the disaster reduction process, play a major role in the entire disaster reduction process. Two external factors, namely scale of operation and agricultural insurance, significantly impact farmers’ production behavior.Investigating how these factors affect farmers’ disaster reduction behavior is critical to promoting disaster reduction efforts among farmers.Building on previous research, this thesis provides definitions of the concepts of scale of operation, agricultural insurance, and tea farmers’ disaster reduction behavior.Drawing from planning behavior, economies of scale, farmer behavior, and moral hazard theories, this study analyzes the relationships between scale of operation, agricultural insurance, and tea farmers’ disaster reduction behavior, and puts forward the research hypothesis.Subsequently,we construct a Probit model of tea farmers’ disaster reduction behavior and an Ordered Probit model of tea farmers’ disaster reduction efforts for empirical analysis. The thesis focuses on investigating the impact of scale of operation, agricultural insurance, and their interaction on tea farmers’ disaster reduction behavior and intensity, and calculates the marginal effect of each variable. The results show that with the expansion of scale of operation, the incidence of disaster reduction behaviors of farmers is constantly increasing. The marginal effect analysis results indicate that the incidence of disaster reduction behaviors of farmers will increase by10.3% when the scale of operation expands by one level. Moreover, with the expansion of scale of operation, farmers’ efforts to reduce disasters are also increasing.Agricultural insurance has an impact on the disaster reduction behavior of farmers. The incidence of disaster reduction behaviors of farmers who have purchased agricultural insurance is significantly higher than that of farmers without agricultural insurance.Agricultural insurance can increase the incidence of disaster reduction behaviors by farmers by 16.7%;and agricultural insurance also helps farmers increase disaster reduction efforts. However,in the analysis of the impact of scale of operation on disaster reduction behavior,it was found that agricultural insurance played a restraining role, and the restraining rate was10.3%.Based on this, this thesis believes that under the background of ensuring the effective supply of main agricultural products,it is necessary to effectively implement the policy of “one household, one field, small fields merge into large fields”,make full use of existing land resources, and expand the scale of farmers’ operation.Secondly,it is necessary to effectively play the role of insurance in supporting and guaranteeing the development of rural industries, expand the types of agricultural insurance, increase the support of agricultural insurance for characteristic industries, improve the level of protection of agricultural insurance, optimize the operating mechanism of agricultural insurance, and improve the dispersion of agricultural risks.Mechanism to establish agricultural insurance information sharing mechanism.Third, attach importance to the role of characteristic industries in rural revitalization, strengthen farmers’ vocational skills training, enhance farmers’ risk awareness and ability to resist risks, and effectively ensure the steady growth of farmers’ income.
