Both the northwest region of China and ASEAN countries have unique advantages in agricultural resources and regional characteristics. With the continuous implementation of the Master Plan for the New Western Land and Sea Corridor and the official signing of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement(RCEP),the agricultural trade volume between the northwest region of China and ASEAN countries has increased from US$250 million in 2017 to US$510 million in 2021,but the northwest region of China agricultural trade with ASEAN countries is still far from the agricultural trade between the rest of China and ASEAN countries. This shows that there is still room for improvement in the agricultural trade environment between the northwest region of China and ASEAN countries. In addition, international trade cannot be conducted without the support of international logistics, and due to the unique properties of agricultural products that are perishable and perishable, higher demands are placed on international logistics when conducting bilateral trade. Therefore, this paper focuses on the impact of logistics performance on the trade of agricultural products between China’s northwest region and ASEAN countries. In this regard, the level of logistics performance of ASEAN countries is measured using the LPI index published by the World Bank every two years, and the level of logistics performance of China’s northwest region is measured using the entropy weighting method.Firstly, this paper analyses the mechanism of the impact of logistics performance on agricultural trade by starting from the definitions and theories related to logistics performance and the impact of logistics performance on trade;secondly, the current situation of agricultural trade and the current level of logistics development between China’s northwest region and ASEAN countries is introduced using statistical analysis;again, this paper uses the logistics performance and other relevant data of China’s northwest region and ASEAN countries from 2010 to 2021 to analyze the logistics performance of China’s northwest region and the logistics performance indices of 10 ASEAN countries and the impact of their subindicators on bilateral agricultural trade using a stochastic frontier gravity model. The results show that, firstly, the logistics performance of the northwest region of China and the logistics performance index and its subindicators of the 10 ASEAN countries are positively correlated with the bilateral trade in agricultural products.Secondly, the degree of influence of each sub-indicator of the logistics performance index of the ASEAN countries on the trade of agricultural products between China’s northwest region and ASEAN varies, with the efficiency of customs clearance procedures having the greatest influence. Finally, based on the above findings, corresponding countermeasures are proposed for the development of bilateral agricultural trade between China’s northwest region,ASEAN countries and China’s northwest region and ASEAN countries in general, respectively.
