Market competition intensifies with the change of demand and technology.In this realistic context,enterprises need to respond to the change of environment and promote open innovation by integrating internal and external resources.There are various kinds of slack resources in the organization.In the idle state,such resources have the dual cognition of low efficiency and innovation support force.The relationship between slack resource and innovation is controversial.With the deepening of research,the utility differences of slack resources are increasingly emerging in different categories,properties and holdings.Relevant research no longer analyzes slack resources in a general way,and the single-dimensional concept evolves into a classified discussion.Some studies have begun to analyze the impact of the holding level of slack resources on decision-making cognition,development and utilization.It is pointed out that an appropriate amount of slack resources is conducive to driving the improvement of innovation performance,while excessive redundancy may lead to blind decision-making,resource abuse,and thus damage the innovation performance of enterprises.In a dynamic environment,how to revitalize the potential value of various types of slack resources through the optimization of holdings and structure,as well as reconstruction and utilization,has become the focus of enterprise management.Reviewing the existing research,there are many achievements in the field of slack resource,but there is no consensus on the relationship between slack resource and enterprise innovation.The impact mechanism and boundary conditions are not clear,so the impact relationship and resource utilization mechanism can be further explored.After reviewing and sorting out relevant domestic and foreign literatures,this study classifies slack resource into unabsorbed slack and absorbed slack according to the existing status of resources.Based on resource theory and open innovation theory,this study follows the perspective of resource orchestration,puts forward assumptions,and constructs the impact model of slack resource,boundary-spanning search and dynamic capability on enterprise innovation performance.This study mainly uses enterprises from economic active areas such as the Yangtze River Delta as the research sample,and compiles questionnaires with reference to the mature scale and in combination with local situations and research needs.The statistical software AMOS21.0 and SPSS22.0 are used for data quality analysis and correlation analysis.At the same time,structural equation model,hierarchical regression and instantaneous mediation effect analysis methods are used to test the research model and hypothesis.The results show as follows:(1)The inverted U-shaped relationship between unabsorbed slack and enterprise innovation performance is significant.The inverted U-shaped relationship between absorbed slack and enterprise innovation performance is not significant,but there is a positive relationship.(2)The boundary-spanning search of technology knowledge and market knowledge play mediating roles between the two dimensions of slack resource and enterprise innovation performance.(3)Dynamic capability positively regulates the direct effect between slack resource,boundary-spanning search and enterprise innovation performance,the second half of the indirect effect,and the mediating effect of boundary-spanning search.Specifically,dynamic capability can regulate the slope of the relationship curve between unabsorbed slack and innovation performance,positively regulate the relationship between absorbed slack and innovation performance,and partially regulate the inverted U-shaped relationship between market knowledge boundary-spanning search and innovation performance.In addition,the stronger the dynamic capability,the stronger the impact of the two types of slack resources on innovation performance through market knowledge boundary-spanning search.However,dynamic capability does not significantly adjust the inverted U-shaped relationship between technology knowledge boundary-spanning search and innovation performance,and the mediating effect of technology knowledge boundary-spanning search.Based on the test results,the following management suggestions are put forward from the perspective of resource holding,development mechanism and capacity cultivation:(1)Enterprises should correctly understand the attributes and values of various slack resources.According to the changes in the environment,the management needs to reasonably arrange the holding amount and structure,control the slack resources in an appropriate range,as well as timely release the untapped potential.(2)Enterprises can acquire new knowledge and new projects through boundary-spanning search activities,and explore ways of resource utilization from external opportunities.Based on this,they can skillfully allocate new uses for slack resources and release untapped potential.At the same time,the management must carefully grasp the search strategy,evaluate the value of various knowledge,weigh the benefits and costs,and take performance as the evaluation standard.(3)The management needs to pay attention to improving the dynamic capability of enterprises through structural adjustment,customer communication and other ways.Enterprises also need to effectively use dynamic capabilities,identify and respond to opportunity windows in time,and achieve innovative development.Taking into account the impact of resource types and holdings,this study has refined the relationship between slack resource and enterprise innovation in local contexts.Based on the resource orchestration paradigm,it has enriched the research on impact mechanisms and guided the idea of "smart allocation" of resources.In the future,it is possible to focus on specific enterprises and industries,pay attention to heterogeneity research,explore potential ways to achieve resource value,and define the scope of application of the promotion mechanism from the perspective of internal and external contexts,so as to better respond to the development needs of enterprises to revitalize slack resource and open innovation.
