In this paper, the pathogenic form of influenza virus and the progress of preventionand treatment for influenza flu with traditional Chinese medicine and western medicinewere reviewed firstly. Then the importance of prevention and treatment for the influenza inthose special human being who easily infected with influenza virus was demonstrated. Thephysique of those susceptible population should belong to Kidney-yang deficiencyaccording to traditonal Chinese medicine. Lastly, ancient and modern clinical applicationswith Mahuang-xixin-fuzi decoction for the treatment of influenza combind withKidney-yang deficiency were summarized. The experimental research was then madebased on the above review. The Kidney-yang deficiency mice model infected withinfluenza virus has been established for the first time in this research program, the efficacyof Mahuang-xixin-fuzi decoction for the treatment of influenza has been evaluated, and thetherapeutic mechanism of the prescription has been investigated.Objective: To establish the Kidney-yang deficiency mice model infected withinfluenza virus by Disease-syndrome combination method, and to observe the efficacy ofMahuang-xixin-fuzi decoction and then to investigate the mechanism for the treatment ofthis disease using this model.Methods: Mice model of kidney-yang deficiency infected with influenza virus hasbeen established through benzoic acid estradiol intraperitoneal injection combined withnasal vaccination influenza viruses FM1. Treated with Mahuang-xixin-fuzi decoction onthis model, the general condition, physiological status, lung index, mortality rate of micewere observed, and the efficacy of Mahuang-xixin-fuzi decoction was evaluated. Theaction mechanism of this prescription for the treatment of the disease was investigated bystudying on the level of cytokine TNF-α and IFN-γ and the anti-oxidative capability of SOD and MDA.Results: Firstly, mice model of kidney-yang deficiency infected with influenza virus hasbeen established, which can be proved by the observation on the index of mice generalcondition, physiological status, lung index and pathological slide of lung tissue. Model micewere in the status of obvious subnormal mental condition and significant lower analtemperature with high mortality rate and apparent pathological impairment of lung tissue.Secondly, physiological conditions of syndrome–model mice could be ameliorated by thetreatment of Mahuang-xixin-fuzi decoction with boosted body temperature, elevation ofTNF-α level, alleviation of the lung tissue pathological impairment and lower mortality rate.Thirdly, organism anti-oxidant capability of the model mice could also be enhanced, level ofserum SOD be increased and MDA level be reduced by the treatment of Mahuang-xixin-fuzidecoction.Conclusion: Mice model of kidney-yang deficiency infected with influenza virus canbe successfully established through benzoic acid estradiol intraperitoneal injectioncombined with nasal vaccination influenza viruses FM1. The efficacy ofMahuang-xixin-fuzi decoction for the prevention and treatment of the disease has beenproved by the obvious improvement of physiological status and significant alleviation ofthe pathological impairment of lung tissue on the model mice, which therapeuticmechanism may be through the elavation of serum TNF-α level and enforcement oforganism anti-oxidant capability.
