This doctoral dissertation deals with the phytochemical studies on the rhizomes of Cimicifuga dahurica (Turoz.) Maxim, and C. foetida L. , both as the originated plants of traditional Chinese drug "Sheng- ma". Besides, the Chemotaxonomical significance and Chemosystematics of Cimicifugeae s.l. (Ranunculaceae) are preliminarily discussed.The chemical study on the n-BuOH extract of the rhizomes of C. dahurica has led to the isolation of 12 natural compounds, including 4 new cycloartane triterpenoid glycosides, 12β - hydroxylcimigenol- 3-O-β-D -xylopyranoside(23R,24S) (1); cimigenol-3-O-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(3→1)-β -D-xylopyranoside (23R, 24S)(2); 24epi-acetylshengmanol-3-O-β-D-xylopyra-noside-15-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(23R,24R)(3); 24epi-acetyl-Shengmanol-3-O-β-D-lyxopyranoside-15-O-β-D-glucopyranoxide (23R, 24R)(4);2 new cinna-mamide derivatives: N-(3'-methoxyl-4'-hydroxylphenethyl)-4-O-β-D-galac-topyranosyl-ferulamide (5) and its geometric isomer N- (3'-methoxyl-4'-hydroxylphenethyl)-4-O-β-D-galactopyranosyl-isofe(?)ulamide (6); and 2 new phenolic glycosides 3,4 — dihydroxyl-β-phenethyl-3-O-β-D-galactopyranoside (7); 3,4-dihydroxyl-β-phenethyl-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(8), and 4 known ones cimigenol xyloside(9), 25-O-acetylcimigenol xyloside(10), isoferulic acid(11),and sucrose(12).The new constituents are referred to as cimiside A(1). cimiside B(2), cimiside C(3), cimiside D(4), cimicifugamide (5),isocimicifugamide(6), cimidahurine(7) and cimidahurinine (8), respectively. The continue investigation on C.foetida L. has resulted in the purification of two new cycloartane triterpenoids, namely cimiside E(13) and cimiside F(14) as well as a novel cycloartane derivative neocimiside(15). Based on spectral evidence. their chemical structures have been elucidated as 25-anhydrocimigenol-3-O-β-D-xylopyranoside (23R, 24S)(13) cimigenol-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(23R,24S)(14) and 24- desisopropyl - 7 -ene-23-one-16α , 24α -epoxy-9,19 ; 16,24-dicycloartane-3β, 11β-diol-3-O-β-D-xylopyranoside(15),respectively. And the investigation has also afforded the isolation of other 16 known compounds, including cimigenol xyloside(9), 25-O-acetylcimigenol xyloside( 10) , actein( 16) , 27 -deoxyctein(17), 3-O-acetylcaffeic acid (18) , caffeic ester β - D -glucopyranoside (19), cimifugin(20), cimifugin β-D-glucopyranoside(21),...
