This paper consists of two sections; one is "The Life and Labors of Bridgman in China", the other is "The Study of Bridgman's Meilige heshengguo zhilue(a brief account of the United States of America; Singapore, 1838)".In the first section, the author describes Bridgman's effort to alter Chinese knowledge of the world, for further Western missionary and commercial interests in the Middle Kingdom. First, the author points out Bridgman's achievement in the culture of Sino-western through the Chinese Repository the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge the Morrison Education Society the Medical Missionary society, etc. Then, the author spells out Bridgman as diplomat and as Bible translator during and after the Opium War. Bridgman's revision of the Scriptures is introduced in the last chapter.In the second section, the author studies Bridgman's Meilige heshengguo zhilue. First, the author analyzes why and how Bridgman writes Meilige heshengguo zhilue. and compares the different edition. Then, the author generalizes content and characteristic of Bridgman's writing. At last, the author shows reader how important is Bridgman's Meilige heshengguo zhilue.In the end of the paper, the author conveys her meaning that the importance of Bridgman's writing is limited.
