Nowadays, the culture of China is drawing great attention in the world, and the domestic study of it never ceased. Scholars have been studying all aspects of it form different points of view. Being the carrier of the culture of China, Chinese characters is the first choice of the researchers. While the history of Chinese characters is very long, this dissertation focus on one phase of the changing of calligraphy which evolved from the ancient characters to the Lishu, namely Libian.For Libian is not a new problem, it not surprising that there were so many studies analyzed and probe into it. Some works surveyed the phenomena of Libian from the point of view of history macroscopically; Some expatiate the rule of the development and evolution of Chinese characters with large amount of full and accurate materials from the microcosmic change of Chinese characters itself; Some expose the development of Libian by the change of form and structure of Chinese characters from the point of view of the calligraphy(handwriting). No matter what ways to be selected and what visual angle to be held, the only purpose is to explain what have never been explained before and reinforce what have been explained before with a scientific attitude and spiritIn this paper, the primary production and the foreign theory about characters are used for reference while the view is not limited by the former. Based on the macroscopical theories, this dissertation investigated microcosmic materials and a series of problems systematically. This dissertation consists of six chapters ,beginning with the origins of the "Libian",then followed by the causation of Libian→the process of Libian→the representation of Libian→the rules of Libian→ the influence of Libian.Chapter One First define the meaning of Libian in order to avoid of the ambiguity of the traditional viewpoint and offer a frame of reference for this dissertation. The development and change of Chinese characters is undetectable in a short time, only through longer time can we see the transformation clearly .This chapter try to clear up the derivation and the former research of Libian which can make me sure how to set about my study and raise my method of research.Chapter Two focus on the causation of Libian which is the crux of the understanding of Libian and the important part of this dissertation. The causation of Libian includes: society needs is the outside drive, Libian was restricted by the influence of the former character, the influence of writing material on Libian, etc.Chapter Three focus on the process of Libian by investigating Libian historically and making time as longitude and different characters of the same period as latitude, through which we can make the slow change of characters appearing more directly and clearly.
