The social and cultural adaptation of immigrants is a complex question in academic research. There are many different characteristics of the social and cultural adaptation of immigrants according to different migrant reasons, resettlement modes, number and composition of immigrants and different social background. Meanwhile the features and contents of culture changes are various. The situation of Han-immigrants to Ningxia in 20th century was very complex. Immigrations have different reasons, ways, times, numbers and composition. So this paper aims to analyze the social and cultural adaptation of the different immigrants. All these study based on a lot of fieldworks in different immigrant groups who immigrated in Ningxia in 20th century.This paper falls into nine chapters.Chapter 1 explains the background, the value and the contents of this study, introduces the methodology and current situations of this topic, defines several concepts involve in the study.Chapter 2 introduces the people who settled in Ningxia in history.Chapter 3 studies the Han people who immigrate Ningxia in the Republic of China and the People's Republic of China, analyzes the reason, the feature and the influence on economy, society and culture in Ningxia of these immigrations.Chapter 4 studies the different ways of social networks construction and different features of their social networks between the country immigrants and city immigrants, and analyzes how their social networks changes with the time going.Chapter 5 studies the acculturation of immigrants to Ningxia regional culture, han people traditional culture and hui people traditional culture. This chapter discusses about the immigrants'cultural adaptation and the characteristics of their psychological changes using the date from fieldwork.Chapter 6 analyzes the social interaction and cultural exchange between the immigrant and native hui people in different areas. The author found that live in harmony but harmony without uniformity is the mainstream of ethnic relations in Ningxia, at the same time psychological distance still remained.Chapter 7 studies the acculturation of immigrants in the background of isolated cultural island in the case of the "third line" factories Qinghe machinery works. The factories immigrated to western remote mountain areas, was affected by the management system and the geographical conditions. The factories community gradually developed into a isolated cultural island far away from local people. The background of isolated cultural island will make a negative influence on the acculturation of immigrant.Chapter 8 studies the social and cultural adaptation of immigrant on the stigma context, focus on the cause of stigma and the effect on the acculturation of immigrant. The author found the stigmas to the immigrant is a dynamic process.Chapter 9 analyzes the external factors and the internal factors of the acculturation in different immigrant groups to Ningxia in 20th century based on the previous study.
