A Study Of The Four Rhyme Books Of Fu-an Dialect

There are four rhyme books of Fu-an dialect at present,which are An Qiang Ba Yin、 Diccionario Espanol-Chino dialecto de Fu-an (Houc-An)、Jian Yi Shi Zi Qi Yin Zi Hui and some fragments of The Version of Fu-an dialect of Qi Lin Ba Yin which is newly discovered.By taking the four rhyme books of Fu-an dialect as our research objects and through comprehensive utilization of dual evidence, reconstruction method,the elimination method and literature comparative reading, the paper not only compares the phonetic systems of the four rhyme books with the north part of the eastern Min dialect,but also compares them with the middle ancient’s phonetic system and the phonetic system of Foochow rhyme book Qi Lin Ba Yin diachronically and synchronically. Analysising the initials,finals and tones systems of these rhyme books comprehensively and systematically,this paper conjectures that the rhyme book An Qiang Ba Yin at present has two editions in fact. The old edition maybe is written by Lu Qiuzao around mid-18th centry and the end of the18th centry who made a reference to Foochow rhyme book Qi Lin Ba Yin and Zi Hui written by Mei Yingzuo in Ming Dynasty. The new edition is anew revised by copiers afterwards based on the old edition according to the periodic pronunciations.The version used at present is Chen Zuwei’s hand-writing copy in1953of the edition copied by Chen Dengkun and his teacher Lu Shanglin at the beginning of the20th centry.Although the phonetic systems of the four rhyme books mainly reflect Fu-an dialect,they also have their own characteristics. The phonetic system of The Version of Fu-an dialect of Qi Lin Ba Yin mainly reflects Fu-an dialect after the mid-18th centry and before the twentieth century. The phonetic system of An Qiang Ba Yin,which is a superimposition of new and old phonetic system,not only retains the phonetic characteristics of early Min dialect,but also reflects the phonetic characteristics of early and modern Fu-an dialect.Although including the dialects around Fu-an, it mainly reflects Fu-an dialect after the mid-19th centry and before the1950’s. The phonetic system of Diccionario Espanol-Chino dialecto de Fu-an (Houc-An) which contains the accents of suburbs around Fu-an city mainly reflects Fu-an dialect between the end of19th centry and the beginning of20th centry.It not only retains the phonetic characteristics of early Fu-an dialect,but also contains the modern Fu-an dialect’s. The phonetic system of Jian Yi Shi Zi Qi Yin Zi Hui mainly reflects Fu-an dialect around the30’s and40’s in the20th century.The four rhyme books are important to our study on Fu-an dialect in linguistics and lexicology.We can conjecture the phonological change rules of Fu-an dialect through the phonetic systems of the four rhyme books,which can help us deal with complicated phonetic phenomenons of Fu-an dialect.
