Hunan Slang Vocabulary Research

Gan dialect in Hunan(hereafter referred to as "GHN" as necessary)is distributed in the 15 counties(cities)of eastern Hunan province and 3 counties of southeastern Hunan province.It is now one of the two most prominent Chinese dialects in Hunan(the other one is southwestern Mandarin dialect)following Xiang dialect.There were several waves of great immigrations in history,through which numerous Jiangxi locals who spoke Gan dialect settled in Hunan,the dialect spoken by those Jiangxi immigrants was the precursor of the contemporary Gan dialect in Hunan.From the very beginning,GHN and Xiang dialect mutually influenced each other.Originated from the Jiangxi Gan dialect,GHN has undergone articulate changes in the past hundreds of years since it first set foot on Hunan.Nowadays GHN not only preserved many important characteristics in line with the Gan dialect in Jiangxi province,but also many in line with Xiang dialect.What peculiarities has GHN developed on its own?What common features does it still share with the ancestral dialect?How does it come to Xiang dialect?These questions have fallen into concerns of the scholars who take a hand in the GHN studies.This research takes 19 representative dialect spots in GHN area as the object of study.Using the three basic study methods:fieldworks,quantitative analysis and comparison,this research discusses the vocabulary features of GHN.The dissertation is made up of ten chapters.Chapter I,"general Introduction",makes a brief survey on the history of the GHN area,particularly on the forming and development of GHN.Chapter ?,"A Quantitative Study of GHN",engages in a quantitative comparison between the Gan dialect in Jiangxi and Xiang dialect in the respects of shared words.Chapters ? to ? comprise the main contents of this research.Chapter ?,"The Structure,Phonetic characteristics,and Rhetoric of GHN",Chapter ?,"The affix of GHN",engages in a detailed discussion of the characteristics of the vocabulary themselves.Chapter V,"The External Cognate Words and the Internal Cognate Words of GHN",by comparing the GHN vocabulary with the dialect words frequently used in the seven big dialect regions,we discovered 31 cognate words in GHN shared by some representative dialects.By statistical induction,we discovered some words exclusive to some areas of GHN.ChapterVI,"Vocabulary Comparison between Eastern Area of GHN and Southeastern Area of GHN",by comparing the vocabulary of the two areas of GHN,the result shows that,there are significant differences in vocabulary between the two areas of GHN.Chatr?,"The Correlation Ratio between GHN and Gan dialect in Jiangxi,The Correlation Ratio between GHN and Xiang Dialect",by comparing the GHN vocabulary with Gan dialects in Jiangxi and Xiang Dialects,it proves that GHN vocabulary still follows a clear generic line of Gan dialects,but it also shows the close relationship between GHN and Xiang dialects.Chapter?,"The Symmetry and The Unsymmetry in GHN Vocabulary",Chapter?,"The Vocabulary About Building and House in GHN Vocabulary",make some discussions of social-cultural phenomenon reflected in GHN vocabulary.
