A Study Of Dialect Vocabulary In Shipai,huaining

Located in the western part of Huaining County,Shipai Town is located on the bank of Wanhe River on the north bank of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River in the southwestern Anhui Province.Its coordinates are 116°28? east longitude and 30°21? north latitude.It is adjacent to Wanhe Farm in the east,Lashu Town,Huaining County in the north,Xinba Township in Wangjiang County in the south,and Leibu Township in Huaining County in the west.It is 214 kilometers north of Hefei City,40 kilometers away from Anqing City in the east,45 kilometers away from Wangjiang County in the southwest,and 48 kilometers away from Taihu County in the west.In the existing dialect vocabulary research literature,there is no systematic study of the dialect vocabulary in Shipai.This thesis takes Huaining Shipai dialect vocabulary as the research object,refers to the Chinese Dialect Word Survey Entry Form to investigate and record the Shipai dialect vocabulary,and works out the Huaining Shipai dialect vocabulary questionnaire.Through comparison with Putonghua,this thesis identifies differences in the dialect vocabulary,which reflect the distinctive features of the Shipai dialect.This article is divided into six chapters.Introduction mainly includes the geography and history of Huaining County;and the research method,purpose,and significance of the research.It briefly introduces the speech system of the Shipai dialect.Chapter One compares the vocabulary of Putonghua and the Huaining Shipai dialect.It finds that the dialect is generally identical or similar with Putonghua.But as a local variant of the common language,it also has its own distinct characteristics,including many differences in word forms,meaning,and grammar.This thesis mainly explains the difference between the dialect and Putonghua from the three aspects of word form,word meaning and word formation motivation.Chapter Two deals with the word formation mode of the dialect of Huaining Shipai.This chapter mainly discusses the word formation mode of the Shipai dialect vocabulary from three aspects of compound,additional and overlapping.Chapter Three discusses the etymological characteristics of the dialect words.This discussion is conducted in terms of inherited words,variant words,innovative words,and borrowed words.However,because borrowed words refer to those borrowed from other languages,including national languages of the country and foreign countries.This does not apply to the vocabulary of Huaining dialect.Therefore,this thesis only deals with inherited words,variant words,and innovative words.Chapter Four studies the relatives' names in the dialect of Huaining Shipai.As a basic vocabulary component,kinship address terms form a strict system in a national language and are relatively stable,reflecting the characteristics of a nation's social life,cultural traditions,and ethnic psychology.Although there are similar cultural phenomena between different ethnic groups,such similarity do not equate with sameness and the difference is the key to distinguishing the term designating relatives.The differences in cultural development in various regions gave birth to the characteristics of the terms for relatives in various places.In Huaining Shipai dialect kinship appellation system,there are many words belonging to different classifications,which are both large and orderly.Moreover,the appellation of relatives in Shipai,Huaining reflects the specific historical and cultural traditions in that region.Chapter Five deals with the relationship between the Shipai dialect vocabulary and its regional culture.This chapter further investigates the cultural meanings as shown in dialect vocabulary from the perspectives of vocabulary and human geography,vocabulary and folk etiquette.Conclusion: This part provides a summary of the entire thesis and points out the deficiencies of this thesis and subsequent research possibilities.Appendix: Shipai Dialect Vocabulary)...
