On Environment Efficiency Of Tourism Industry:Measurement Model And Its Influencing Factors

Environmental efficiency of tourism industry is the relation between tourism economic output and tourism environmental impact.Environmental efficiency of tourism industry is a state of coordination between tourism economic development and environment quality and is the influence degree of the economy-ecological system which is affected by tourism activity.A great amount of research has been conducted on environmental efficiency from the view of human material production behavior which has a impact on environment,however,there is relatively little research on environmental efficiency from the view of human consumption behavior.In term of research methods,many studies have employed the data envelopment analysis(DEA).The use of emergy analysis and the ecological footprint method is relatively little.Therefore,from the view of environmental efficiency,this study aims to investigate the single factor environmental efficiency,multi-factor environmental efficiency,and environmental efficiency elasticity index by integrating the use of emergy analysis,the ecological footprint method,the single ratio method,correlation analysis and sensitivity analysis method of statistical methods.This paper can be divided into four parts:Section 1,which includes chapter 1 and chapter 2,introducing the background and theoretical foundation.In particular,Chapter 1 analyses the research background and the significance of environmental efficiency of tourism industry,and introduces the main content,research framework,research progress,research methods and technical path of this study.Chapter 2 examines the concept of environmental efficiency of tourism industry and provides a review of the theoretical basis of this study.Section 2,which includes chapter 3,exploring the environmental efficiency evaluation model of tourism industry.Chapter 3 constructs single factor and multiple factors environmental efficiency evaluation model by emergy analysis method,the single ratio method and ecological footprint analysis method,and constructs environmental efficiency elasticity index model by using elastic theory and decoupling theory.Section 3,consist of chapter 4 and chapter 5,is the empirical investigation.Chapter 4 examines the characteristics of environmental efficiency dimensions,single factor environmental efficiency of tourism industry,multi-factor environmental efficiency,single factor environmental efficiency elasticity index,and multi-factor environmental efficiency elasticity index.The findings suggest that different types of tourism destinations have different the sorts of the index single factor environment efficiency of tourism industry.There is an expansionary re-linking state between the growth of economic benefit and the growth of each environmental index.The growth rate of tourist environmental impact index benefits than the growth rate of tourism economic.From the view of multi-factor.the study reveals that different types of tourism destinations have differences in aspects of per capita of multi-factor environmental efficiency value and multi-factor environmental efficiency value calculated in accordance with land.The multi-factor environmental efficiency of different types of tourism destinations value have a different role in promoting the national average environment efficiency.There is an expansionary re-linking state between the growth of economic benefit and the growth of total tourism environment dimension.The growth rate of total tourism environment dimension benefits than the growth rate of tourism economic.Tourism destination solid waste environmental efficiency,environmental efficiency of water resource and waste water have positive impacts on the environment efficiency of tourism industry.In addition,the impacts of energy efficiency and carbon emissions environment efficiency on environmental efficiency of tourism industry are not significant statistically.Chapter 5 analyses the influential factors of environmental efficiency by using correlation analysis and sensitivity analysis.The study suggests that different factors have different impacts on the environmental efficiency.The tourism economic scales and environment efficiency of tourism industry showed significant positive correlation.With the analysis of the composition of the tourism income,the catering income,the tourist accommodation income and travel catering income have a positive impacts on the environment efficiency.Tourism industry structure have positive correlation on the environmental efficiency of tourism industry.Technology progress has significantly positive correlation on the environmental efficiency of tourism industry.At the environment level,carbon emissions,energy consumption and water consumption have positive impacts on the environmental efficiency of tourism industry of tourist destination,and waste water and solid wastes have weak impacts on the environmental efficiency of tourism industry.The government environmental regulation level and the scenic area characteristic have significant positive effects on the environment efficiency of tourism industry.The tourist environmental awareness has significant positive effects on the environment efficiency of tourism industry.Scenic area management pattern and traffic organization may impact the environment efficiency of tourism industry.Section 4 which includes chapter 6.It summarizes the key findings,the contributiongs of this study,and the direction for future research.This study has innovation efforts in following two areas.Firstly,this study structure environmental efficiency evaluation model and environmental efficiency elasticity index model of tourism industry from the view of environmental efficiency,which expands the scope of environmental efficiency evaluation theory and reveals the laws of environmental efficiency of tourism industry.On the other hand,this study compares environmental efficiency of tourism industry among different types of tourism destinations and reveals the differences of environment efficiency of tourism industry.In terms of research method,emergy analysis and ecological footprint are introduced into the analysis of environmental efficiency of tourism industry,which effectively solve the problem that different units of environment index cannot be integrated.This research introduces sensitivity analysis into the the analysis of environmental efficiency influencing factors of tourism industry,which effectively breaks through limitation of traditional data analysis methods.
