Life Bookstore (1932-1945) And The Spread Of Chinese Literature During The War

Shenghuo Bookstore was founded in 1930s when China was plagued by Japan and broken families and devastation could be seen everywhere.The number of its publications was near the top in the field,among which literature communications and publications were the greatest in China during The War.Not only is the emergence and transmission of literature publications of Shenghuo Bookstore of irreplaceable significance,but it also has great practical social importance.There are mainly four areas in the study of Shenghuo Bookstore:studies on the development of Shenghuo Bookstore from a historical perspective;studies on the management of Shenghuo Bookstore;and studies on the important managers such as Zou Taofen;only a small number of studies on one particular book or journal from a edition or literature perspective,which are often seen in Doctoral or Master 's dissertation.However,weaknesses are still unavoidable.Firstly,there is still space for the historical materials to be explored.Secondly,there are few studies on the transmission of its literature publications as a whole.Thirdly,studies are not systematic in that the researches are not based on theoretical framework.Due to the problems through the analysis of the talked above,the present study,based on both diachronic and synchronic studies,chooses Shenghuo Bookstore and its literature publications as research objects,with the theory of 5w in communications by Harold Lasswell,register theory of media field by Pierre Bourdieu,and from a perspective of literature communication environment in literature communication aims to systematically investigate the relationship between Shenghuo Bookstore and Chinese literature communication during the War.The study consists of five chapters.The first chapter mainly introduces the research review and methodology,innovation and significance of the present study and discusses why this topic is chosen.In the light of the present phenomenon that many bookstores are disappearing,and the realistic and academic problem about inadequate evaluation on the literary value of the Store,the chapter talks about the significance of Shenghuo Bookstore on the study of literature transmission.Diachronically the author analyzes the three periods:the early period,and the stagnation period and the dynamic period.Synchronically the chapter introduces the history of the bookstore,and some managers such as Zou Taofen,andstudies a certain journal on a specialized topic.In these research,the author has the discovery that the historical materials are in need of perfection,that few studies on the literary books and journals as a whole exist,and that the present studies is not based on a systematical theory,etc..Therefore,in pursuit of the solution to these problems,the author offers some key ideas,with the theory of 5w in communications by Harold Lasswell,the paper adopts literature and case study to discuss the Shenghuo bookstore and the transmission of Chinese literature during the War,which firstly exposes the literature communicator,transmission content,and transmission target,and transmission effect of Shenghuo Bookstore thoroughly,systematically and detailedly.The second chapter is about the diachronic study of Shenghuo Bookstore.The author separately introduces the growth from Chinese vocational education to life weekly and to Shenghuo Bookstore,and clarifies the viration and features of Shenghuo Bookstore itself as a communication media or channel.Shenghuo Bookstore underwent three stages of development in Shanghai,Wuhan,Chongqing because of the influence of the War.The chapter also depicts in detail the increase in publication sorts,the formation of its management style,working for the CCP in secret,the withdrawal of its publishing network,the foundation of the editorial committee,the destroy of Shenghuo Bookstore by Japanese army,and its branch being baned.The third chapter is about the division and unity between Shenghuo Bookstore and literature media during the war.From the perspective of the literature organizations,the author first introduces the inheritance of the literature Study Society by the bookstore,and its potential intercourse with the league of left wing authors,thus generalzing the complex kinship among novel monthly,literature monthly,Literature Study Society,editors from literature and the left wing writers and between Shenghuo Bookstore.From a perspective of literature edition,it discusses the cooperation between Lu Xun and Shenghuo Bookstore.It can be found that Lu Xun provided support and help to the bookstore.However,divergence and conflict are not avoidable between them.Literature evangelists of the age are of multiple identities.The fourth chapter focuses on the construct of the media field and the guidance of literature transmission during the war.The study takes Shenghuo Bookstore as a media field,and investigates its plan,fostering and forge of the subfields like Literature Position,Literature and Art Front and Conversation by Writing.Based on the content of the representative literature publications during the war,the present study analyzes the ideological orientation of Marxism-Leninism and its value as a guidance of inspiring people,anti-Japanese national salvation movement and support for the anti-Japanese national united front.By introducing theory on the environment of literature transmission,the study,on the one hand,investigates the refereeing,printing and publicating of Literature Position under the censorship;on the other,anti-censorship by staff of Shenghuo Bookstore is also observed.It can be found that there is a negative effects from the literature communication environment on literature content.The fifth chapter,the readers' orientation and the communication effects of the literary books and magazines in life bookstores.Starting from the significance of"Shenghuo spirit" to the readers of the team construction,it tries to analyze the regional distribution of the literary readers from 57 disciplinary branch,business offices all over the country.Based on the analysis of historical materials,it points out the main group of readers included the literary editors,critics and writers in literary circles;the teachers,college students and some middle-school students;the young soldiers from the front and the rear;some administrative staff and civil servants;overseas Chinese and compatriots.Meanwhile,it selects Mr.Warwick and On Chinese Theory of Literary thought in Recent 20 Years as a case study.It studies the literary debate they triggered,the best-quality process of Mr.Warwick;the void filled for the modern literary history by the On Chinese Theory of Literary thought in Recent 20 Years,and other effects of the studies of Lu Xun.Conclusion.It sums up the experiences and lessons of Shenghuo Bookstore in wartime.It concludes the interaction between ShenghuoBookstore and the writers in wartime literatures.On one hand,it builds the platform for the literary production and communication,unifies the dismissed writers of the two big literary associations,fosters the new writers and provides space for the literary publications;On the one hand,the quality of the books and magazines in Shenghuo Bookstore literature has improved.It has wined a high reputation in the literature,and obtained a good market economic benefit in the wartime literary communication.Shenghuo Bookstore play an exemplary role in boosting national war,which has a huge contribution to the victory of the Chinese Anti Japanese War.Due to slight errors of internal management during the spread of the wartime literature,Shenghuo Bookstore have caused the "publication storm" with Lu Xun.There is still a certain practical significance in the management art of Shenghuo Bookstore.
