The Southwest Associated University And "Lu Yi" In The History Of Chinese New Literature

Southwest Associated University and Lu Yi were set up in the same year.In the smoke of war,they both guarded and inherited the essence of Chinese traditional culture,and had a common spiritual orientation to promote social progress,but different social fields and ideological orientations made the two schools formed different characteristics on education philosophy and education policy.The teachers and students from the two schools were different in theme,style or language in their literary creation and activities,and formed two different literary systems :the elite literature tradition and the literature paradigm of workers,peasants and soldiers.Southwest Associated University adhered to "May 4th" new literature tradition,upholding the general education of academics.They continued and developed the elite literature tradition,paying attention to the humanism care and delicate artistic taste.They pursued the aesthetic modernity,hoping to transform people’s mind and influence the society by fine literary works.Lu Yi,however,adhered to the practical education,shaping the new life,new characters and new orders in the liberated areas.They emphasized the utility functions of literature,and regarded literature as a part of the politics.In the war-ridden liberated areas,the social mobilization function of literature was cranked up to the max by Lu Yi,carrying out the popular literary campaign,such as street poems,new yangge,and remolding old shows,etc.Although Southwest Associated University and Lu Yi were different in literary aesthetic orientation,they had the achievements respectively.It is difficult to measure and contrast them with the same standard,but they were very important in the history of Chinese new literature,and had a deep influence on the "seventeen years" literature,cultural revolution literature,literature in the new period,and the new century literature.For a long time,Chinese contemporary literature history is characterized by the struggle of the two types of literature with one rising and the other landing-----the elite literature and the literature of workers,peasants and soldiers.There were hidden some complex information codes behind the different literature types,to collate and interprete them not only has important theoretical value and realistic significance,but also provides the discourse support for the future literature creation.
