The people' engineering activity has more extensive influence to geological environment, then cause a series of engineering geology problems. The research to area engineering geology problems is a efficient means that analyses and forecasts the happen to geological disaster in order to the reasonable layout and reduce man-madely geological destroy, and advancing the development of the human and the nature. Regional stability evaluation is the forecast of the possible generant geological disaster, it is the goal and production transform of the research to engineering geological problems. GIS technology is the base technology of "Digital Earth", the during of research to engineering geology problems, the introducing GIS technology can modernize and develop the engineering geological research.Firstly engineering geology problems in northern Chaohu area are studied and described on this paper based on a great deal of field observations, including fault structure,neotectonic movement, landslide and karstic collapse.On the basis of first-hand data, the two periods of stress field since Mesozoic are restored by means of the stereographic projection method,on the other hand,the present stress field is studied by means of the focal mechanisms solution.Based on above content,the dynamic setting and the regional stability in this area are analyzed,and according to regional stability evaluation we consider that northern Chaohu area belongs to elementary stabilization area. On the basis of this, I put the GIS technology and the engineering geology problems together, estabilish the northern Chaohu area's engineering geology problems' spatial information system, the 3D visualization and the partly especially geological phenomenon's 3D-dynamic simulation are come true. Finally, several research conclusions are drawn based on the results of engineering geology's research and system's design, along with the suggestion about research on this subject hereafter.This article's design has important theoretics and practice meaning. In the abstract, on the basis of tectonics, make use of the plate tectonic-theory, the ancient and the present stress field as well as geographic information system to research the engineering geology problems. In practice, this design is the example of the engineering geology and GIS's combination, and use the Visual Basic, MapObjects to progress the quadratic empolder of the ArcInfo, the GIS's application in the engineering geology has profitable development.
