Along with the development of computer technology, embedded technology, the wireless communication, as well as people's imperious demand to the space position information, the using platform of GIS has extended to the wireless field. For the research of GIS, how to provide GIS service under the mobile computing environment will become one of the hot spots. At the same time, the mobility of PDA will provide good platform support to the development of Mobile GIS.This article is precisely under this kind of background, through the integration of key technologies: mobile computing, GIS, GPS, GPRS/CDMA, etc, we develop a Mobile GIS system on PDA, through what users can enjoy this special Location Based Service at anytime and anywhere.In this paper, main works are related to as follows:1. On the basis of analyzing the main problem exist in the development of Mobile GIS and the software and hardware platform characteristics, it establishes a sort of vector GIS data model which suit to the mobile equipment. Then it proposed the data organized strategy which is based on the need to call in the spatial data by layers and blocks.2. It gives the special realization method to the spatial data compression, the spatial data index as well as the memory management what is suitable in the mobile equipment.Through this method it can enormously enhance the efficiency of data wireless transmission.3. It mainly discusses the spatial data wireless transmission of Mobile GIS. Then it proposes how to neatly choose the mode of data transmission according to the actual data transmission demand, the MMS pattern or wireless net pattern. As a result it gives the concrete solution of the space data transmission under these two kind of patterns.4. It develops one Mobile GIS application example on PDA. In this system it realizes a series of functions such as map multi-scale demonstration, inquiry, analysis, GPS localization and GPS data acquisition, wireless transmission of spatial data ,etc.
