The mineral industry is the foundation of national economy and sustained development ofmineral industry is important assurance that the national economy can keep on;Information-based is one of the important measures which raises management level of themineral industry production. "With information-based arouse industrialization, promote byindustrialization information-based" is the inevitable choice which quickly realize modernizationof the mineral industry.The mineral mountain data is characterized as multidimensional, multisource,multiple-timespace, multi-measure and diversification of obtaining means etc, thus thecomplexity of management and analysis for mineral mountain data is different from the one ofgeneral data. Facing day by day vigorous international domestic competition, the mineralmountain business enterprise has to well make use of the advanced information technique tobuild up information management and decision-making support system for data processing anddifferent level assistance management and decision making, then these enterprises can establishmodernization of mineral mountain and synthesize dynamic state, market and present conditionto adjust business enterprise strategy and point, and to raise mineral mountain a businessenterprise production management and economic performance. However, the traditional OLTPsystem is designed according to a business processing system. Data format and description is alsounsuitable for statistics analysis in decision, objective up keep a great deal of data over a longperiod of time impossibly, and hard satisfy the requirement of real time transaction processingefficiently. It is important and necessary that supporting decision maker to make a long-termdecision by the long-term trend of analysis data, but the traditional OLTP system is not meet therequest. The business enterprise demand to carry on analysis to investigate the regulation of thebusiness activity and the operation trend of the market by analyzing a great deal of business data(include history data). There are great deals of data in most business enterprises, these enterprisesare up a tree for redundancies, dirty, inconformity and share of these data. Fortunately, datawarehouse and data mart is technique which is exactly specialized for statistics analysis anddecision and which can provide data for decision making and online analysis application.Geological and Mineral Resources Point-Source Information System is a fundamentalinformation system for a base geology investigation and exploring unit. Geological and Mineral Resources Point-Source Information System not only integrates multi-source, multi-form,multi-dimension, multi-theme mineral data but also combines multi-databases(relation database,graphic database, model database, method database and knowledge database) and fuses DBS,GIS, RS, GPS, CADS and ES. The system can realize the collection, transaction, management,intelligent index and network of data in the whole process of mineral investigating and exploring.So it is at present a general data platform for mineral investigating and exploring, and is apowerful decision making tool to integrate all-round mineral information systems. Integrating thedata warehouse into Geological and Mineral Resources Point-Source Information System canprovide analysis data and a way of making decision for synthesizing and preprocessinginvestigation and exploring data and its application layers.The construction of the data warehouse usually involves very huge of scope and devotioncost. It is a large project of high devotion and low rate of progress. Basic level reconnoiter unitsdo not hope to see the thing. The units request a open data interface tool which adapts to theirrequirements, is easy implemented, is customizable and is convenient and efficient. It is the bestchoice that establishing data mart and creating data warehouse based on the former.Data mart is a minitype of data warehouse and it is designed to satisfy the demand of onedepartment. Opposite at the data warehouse, the data mart has the features such as short period ofconstruction, small investment and low risk etc. It makes the business enterprise get an economicperformance in a short time. Construction data mart according to requirements of departmentscan reduce development risks and expenses for a business enterprise.Based on analyzing the construction of mineral information system and requirements fordata warehouse in local mineral business enterprises, this paper studies the principles, themethods and the techniques of the construction of data mart. At the last the paper proposes aschema of constructing data mart for metals mineral business enterprises according to theprinciples, methods and techniques of constructing data mart.
