Along with the methods of geographic data getting becomes richer increasingly, the speed of data production methods is higher than that of data update, now the core of GIS has translated data production into data update, the data update has relation to the continuity development of GIS. However, for geographic data, its multiplex source,complex per se and change of diversified change, how to efficiently update basic geographic information in time is still the important program of GIS research .This paper begins from the reality of the fundamental geographic information data, use a plenty of scattered big scale vector data exist has been used in this study, especially the latest geographic data for example the data of completed project to check, update the fundamental geographic information (1: 10000), update the long period,high cost integer into the short period,high efficiency part.The main problem of data update is: it is uniform to express or stock the new-old data, data scale is different, the change of geographic information is complex etc.. Aim at these problems, this paper has carried out research on data conversion, cartographic generalization and data update model and so on. The main content is as follows:(1) Research the data conversion problems, solve simple graphical data updated geographic information issues .On the basis of Analysising of features the AutoCAD data (DWG format) express geographical information, Based on the ArcGIS component technology to solut the problem in transfering the AutoCAD graphics without attribute data to GIS data which attribute integration of vector data. Implementation of GIS data from AutoCAD to GIS data (Shape file format) conversion, including graph and attribute data.(2)Comprehensive study cartographic generalization algorithm, integrated a large-scale GIS data for smaller-scale GIS data. The method Principal Component Analysis is used to perform more comprehensive evaluation indicators, to soluting the problem that using a single indicator can not measure fully integrated object. And the use of the method in automatic selection of rivers by many indicators.(3) The study is based on the characteristic of geographic information changes to achieve the fundamental geographic information updated automatically. In this paper, a detailed analysis spatial data (point, line and polygon types of elements) and attribute data changes, On the basis of that, geographical information (vector data) update model is build,using GIS powerful spatial analysis functions and flexible graphical method to achieving fundamental geographic information updated automatically.(4) Qingdao Economic and Technological Development Zone is choosed for the pilot district, and the use of this approach to the region based GIS update test.
