Land is the basis for human survival and development. Because of its non-renewable, more and more people pay attention to rational use of land. Accurate land resources statistics is the most important development of national economic plan and policies. Land-use map is the principal results of land resources investigation. Land-use maps primarily reflect the characteristics of land use and whether it is reasonable. So the land-use maps provide scientific basis for improving land use patterns and to further excavate the potential of land. Currently, the conversion of land use data from large-scale to the medium and small scale mainly by manual operation or based on a commercial software package; Because of the heavy work, the long consumption cycle, highly technical and other things, manual operation generate errors easily; While the commercial software package, take ArcGIS for example in this paper, is lack of relevant knowledge and common rules during the process of land use data. The paper does some study of this problem; the main duties include the following aspects:1. Analyzed the status of the theory of computer graphics at home and abroad; combined with the importance of land-use data presented the research content and the technical route.2. Further described the features of cartographic generalization of land use data, factors, principles and the content of cartographic generalization of land use data.3. Take a commercial package ArcGIS for example, analysis the advantages and disadvantages of land use data in ArcGIS.4. Combination of land-use data cartographic generalization theoretical system, develop a module for cartographic generalization of land-use data based on land-use mapping rules and operations in ArcGIS Engine environment; The example date is used for testing the function of the module.5. Summary the gaps of research.
