As a burgeoning model for urban management, urban grid management model obtains the character of high efficiency and high openness. Acting as one of the core technology in grid management model, geocoding plays essential roles in the whole management process. On the basis of the study on the definition, technological flow and character of the urban grid management model, this thesis in particular concentrates on the geocoding part of this model. The author has carried out an elaborate study on geocoding technology by dividing itinto two parts------the study on geocoding database and the study on address matching.Frequently, traditional geocoding system merely use street maps with house numbers as geocoding reference data which can only lead to one kind of locating method. On account of this monotony character of the traditional geocoding system, this thesis presents a compound locating method combining landmark locating, street house number locating, road crossing locating and region locating method to corporately fix on objects' position. Simultaneously, this thesis also improves those four kinds of locating method by appending direction supplementary information and distance supplementary information to the address input interface which enrich the hierarchy of the methods and enhance geocoding accuracy. To practice the theory above, the author chooses several neighborhoods in Putuo District of Shanghai City as the study area and uses ArcGIS Engine kit to development a geocoding system. The thesis is divided into five chapters: The first chapter is the introduction which present the definition, management flow and main character of urban grid management model, summarizes the meaning of geocoding technology and its roles in a grid management system. The introduction chapter also discusses current domestic and abroad research on geocoding, puts forward the contents of the paper. The second chapter analyses related theory on how to construct a complete and accurate geocoding database, including study on reference data type, data collecting, data cleaning and data updating. The third chapter focuses on address matching part. In this chapter the author illustrates four locating methods, designs a friend interface for inputing address information and describes record linkage method. The fourth chapter mainly concentrates on the establishment of the geocoding system, including general design, database construction and function realization. The last chapter summarizes the thesis and points out some shortcomings to give future researches the possibleperspectives. The innovation of the paper : Utilizing a compound locating method to improve thegeocoding practicality; Increasing further address information to each locator to enhance the level and accuracy of the system, using both management grid and facility grid to provide residents in the digital community with detailed services, which makes the concept of grid management can not only apply to manager but also to general residents.
