North Harbin area is a part of Songliao Basin, which experienced faulted period and depression period of basin evolution. In the eighties in the twentieth century, The discovery of industrial gas reservoir in the eastern fault depression of Songliao Basin proved that there existed exploration prospect in deep layer fault depression. Lindian fault depression is one of the biggest fault depression of North Harbin area. And compared to the other fault depressions, Lindian fault depression has more geological data and more amount of well drilling. So, it is necessary to emphatically analyze Lindian fault depression.Based on the drilling data, logging data, new geo-chemical analysis data and seismic data, this paper made a qualitative and quantitative evaluation on resource potential of the fault depression layer. Dark mudstones are widely developed in Lindian fault depression, organic matter abundance in marine source rocks is in middle level. According to the comparison of development of hydrocarbon source rocks between Lindian fault depression and Xujiaweizi fault depression, the results indicates that the distribution range and the thickness of hydrocarbon source rocks in Lindian fault depression are obviously worse than that in Xujiaweizi fault depression. the same situation occurs in the comparison of geo-chemical data. It proves that the amount of organic matter which can generate hydrocarbon in Lindian fault depression is much less than that in Xujiaweizi fault depression. For this reason, we can not analyze the resource potential of Lindian fault depression as Xujiaweizi fault depression. By using chemical kinetic theory and hydrocarbon-generated potential method, we reappraise hydrocarbon generation quantity, hydrocarbon expulsion quantity and resource quantity. We calculated gas resource quantity is 17.40~52.20×108m3 through recovering organic matter abundance and hydrocarbon generation potential of hydrocarbon source rocks. By means of the result of resource prediction, this area shows that the exploration prospect is not optimistic, the Lindian fault depression has a large but not enough exploratory well. It can not be given up just because temporary failure.
