Grid Geographical Information System And Its Application Study

Grid, a new internet technology, now has been called the third Internet. Various resources such as computing resources, storage resources, data resources, information resources, communication resources and software resources could be integrated by Grid platform. It would be very helpful to eliminate the island resources by means of sharing and integration of above rescources. Thus various resources could be fully used. With a very strong advantage of Grid in computing rescources that could handle the complex GIS problems, especially the problems that can not be solved only counting on the local rescources, it could provide the unprecedented GIS resources sharing and function services for researchers and ordinary users, basing on the WWW Grid platform.Therefore, it would have a very bright future for the development of GIS if the Grid technology was applied into GIS. The main contents of the thesis are as follows: (1) it discussed the concept of GIS and its composition, function, characteristics as well as its development trends. (2) Grid concept with its classification, structure and characteristics have been illustrated, mainly focusing on the Five Hourglass Structure, Open Grid Services Architecture (OGSA) and the three key technologies for Grid Service Implementation. (3) it described the procedure of establishment of Grid application environment by Globus Toolkit 4.2.1, including the GT4 preparations before installation, GT4 installation and its identification of deployment configuration. By the computer simulation technology and the existing resources, the author of this thesis established the network experimental platform which consisted of three virtual computer. Then a simple Grid service has been implemented by GT4 in this platform and meanwhile in which the Grid service of the consolidation of remote sensing images has also been achieved. By this network experimental platform, the author of this paper tested the performance of Grid from three aspects and related data have been obtained, aiming to illustrate the procedure of Grid service in further detail. (4) It elaborated the concept of Grid GIS, its structures and functions. Then the application frame of Grid GIS and the advantages of GIS application in above platform have been discussed in order to illustrate the great prospects of Gird in the GIS.
