As a new technology in today's design and manufacture fields, the Virtual Prototype Technology brings new energy to the traditional design and manufacture.The shearer's ranging arm is a multi-body system and the load characteristic is very complicated, so it brings many difficulties to research dynamic property with traditional computational method. Applying ADAMS and ANSYS software to analyse the dynamics property of shearer's ranging arm.Applying UG software to build the geometrical model of system's mechanical structure. We import the geometrical model of mechanical structure into ADAMS to build a Virtual Prototype model of shearer's ranging arm. According to the significance of simulation. Researching on the generation method of Flexible body, Applying ADAMS software to build the flexible shearer's ranging arm. Finally, the Virtual prototype model with a flexible ranging arm was built.Applying ADAMS to finish the modal analysis of rangingarm and extract the modal shape and natural frequency of free modal and constrained modal. Adopting different signal(step signak sine signak random signal)to analyse the dynamics property of shearer's ranging arm, including the force on each joint point and dynamic response curve of ranging arm. Finally, the load for FEA was got from ADAMS.Using the advanced FEA software------ANSYS to build theFEA model of ranging arm. The modal analysis and statics analysis of ranging arm is analysised. The load from ADAMS software was put on ranging arm to analyses the dynamic property. Through the statics analysis, the strength collate of ranging arm is finished. The result of modal analysis from ADAMS and ANSYS is compared. It was proved in accordance to compare result that the result from ADAMS is perfect.The paper manifests that, by generating the flexible body, it is helpful to advance simulation precision and build efficient virtual prototype. The application of Virtual Prototype Technology in the shearer structure design can increase quality of product design, shorten period of shearer design. It would be used as reference in the shearer design.
