Tray column is a type of important gas-liquid contact equipment inthe chemical and petroleum industry, and it has recently shown stronggrowth tendency in a new competition with paced column. The directedtrapezoidal valve trays of four different heights were developed in thispaper. The hydrodynamic performance of these plates was investigated byusing air-water system in a column with side length of500mmx500mm,and the correlations of plate pressure-drop,weeping andentrainment with weir height, liquid strength and kinetic energy factorbased on valve holes were obtained. It could be used conveniently inindustrial applications. The mass transfer efficiency of directed trapezoidal valve trays ofdifferent heights was determined by experiment of CO2 desorption.Itshowed the mass transfer efficiency of directed trapezoidal valve trays ofdifferent heights was quite defferent. The range of gas load in optimalmass transfer efficiency was also different. In addition,A new valve tray——gradient ringent trapezoidal valvewas also developed in this paper. The rules of the hydrodynamicperformance and mass transfer efficiency were studied in experiment.Atthe same time, they were compared with those of directed trapezoidalvalve tray.It showed that the entrainment and mass transfer efficiency ofthis tray was more excellent than that of directed trapezoidal valvetray, and it could be used in industry.
