The hydraulic characteristics of hole-blocked directed float valve trays were tested in a Φ1000mm,6 m high pilot scale stainless steel column using air-water system. Different ways of blocking the holes on wave directed valve tray were studied. Influence of liquid flow rate, outlet weir height, gas velocity and structure of special blocked trays on entrainment performance, weeping rate and dry or wet pressure drop were measured. Further, comparison between blocked trays and the uniformly distributed valve trays were taken. Meanwhile, entrainment, weeping and pressure drop equations of wave directed valve trays were fit with experimental data.The results showed, tray blocked two rows of float valve on export side perform less entrainment but larger leakage and pressure drop, tray blocked one row of float valve on each side perform larger entrainment but less leakage and pressure drop. At same valve hole kinetic energy factor, entrainment reduced with blocked hole number. It made reduce overcapacity possible theoretically. At same hole opening rate, trays blocked one row of valve on export side perform better in entrainment and pressure drop than uniformly districted trays.
