Along with the development of national economy, the standard of living for people is improving increasingly, at the mean while it has also brought forth stricter requirements to the quality of life. As one of the major risk factors, river system must be paid much attention to. But at the time of economic development, river ecological systems of the town in China suffers from serious destruction. Therefore, the regulation to river is imperative.Based on the study of development of domestic and foreign river management, the paper researched four contents as follows:(1) Beginning from the concept and features of ecological river, the paper presented three teaching patterns of ecological bank slope management, namely original ecological type, natural type, engineering project and natural type.(2) Based on the analysis of features, patterns and scope of application of the three teaching patterns, the paper pointed out the computational method of slope stability of the different teaching patterns, including structural stability calculation of slope protection, holding soil analysis of plants root and the influence of hydraulics on the stability of slope.(3) Based on satisfying the structural stability of slope protection, the paper analyzed the ecological carrying capacity of river and introduced the conception and connotation of ecological carrying capacity, and made the analysis calculation of water environmental carrying capacity, the suitable model of landscape and biodiversity.(4) Finally, the theory was applied to the engineering project of Cha river management which flows across baima town in lishui county of nanjing city, and offers a reference to other river management engineering in nanjing city.
