As a highly effective welding technology, the flash butt welding has been gotten widespread usage in welding field. With the development of industrial automation control technology, how to control the procedure of flash butt welding reliably has being the target of modern industry development. The practice indicates that the performance of PLC is reliable and dependent, which can substitute the import welding machine's control system completely, and accomplish the automation control of flash butt welding process.The flash butt welding equipment is composed of the mechanical organization, the welding power source, the control system etc. The flash butt welding control succession including in the debugging stage, the workpieces' installation and clamping stage, the promoting and welding stage and so on. According to the flash butt welding control succession, the CPM1A series 30P PLC produced by OMRON Corporation was used to design the PLC control system. The control system consists of synchronized signal circuit, PLC input and output hardware circuit, air cylinder drive circuit, SCR triggering circuit, etc.The flash butt welding sequential control time takes the cycle as unit, and inputting the PLC system internal memory by the way of pre-setting. The host circuit is composed of solder circuit transformers, pros parallel SCR, etc. Through adjusting control angle of SCR to realize the control of flash butt welding heat. The PLC control system through the isolating and triggering control the host circuit, using the pneumatic solenoid valve to the control movement of components. The flash butt welding mechanical aerodynamic air process has designed three air courses, providing the air operated source for the clamp, the localization, promote, and heading process respectively. The PLC control flash butt welding technology process, mainly including in the welding energy regulation and the process control. Through the PLC software programming, the flash butt welding return route may input different welding current and the demand signals according to request, in order to control flash butt welding output current waveforms. Every pneumatic component is controlled by PLC, that has realized the sequential control of flash welding technological process; Respectively, the frequency of 50 Hz and 100 Hz pulse produced by Synchronous Pulse circuit are used for controlling the welding time and the phase-shift circuit, which ensure the precise control of time and heat; The pulse row ensures the balance of the half-wave current trigger pulse, avoiding the electric current impact when the welding transformer connection instantaneous produced. In short, the entire system hardware anti-interference capability, the software satisfies the flash butt welding process control request, so in some degree it meets the mechanization and automation control of flash butt welding technological process, which is of extremely vital significance to improve and stabilize welding quality.
